Job summary

Consultant in Medical Oncologywith interest in Melanoma, Germ Cell Malignancies & Acute Oncology

The post holder will have subspecialty interests in melanoma, germ cell malignancies and acute oncology. An interest in teaching and staff training would be an advantage. Opportunities exist for research and/or teaching, with established links with Bangor and Wrexham Universities.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate fully in the consultant-led integrated specialist oncology service across North Wales. A flexible approach will be required as the service continues to evolve and further modernise, as additional new and replacement consultant appointments are made.

Tumor sub-sites which will be included in a negotiated Job Plan to include melanoma, germ cell malignancies and acute oncology.

Main duties of the job

Key tasks: o To provide specialist oncological services to the population served with special reference to the common cancers and agreed appropriate oncology subspecialties and to be an active participant in each of these multidisciplinary teams.o To work closely with clinical consultant colleagues and to provide seamless cancer care for all patients.o To work closely with colleagues in other Divisions to assist in providing an efficient service for patients transferring between the different disciplines and during the patient journey.o To liaise with colleagues in Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care to provide inpatient cover for oncology patients.

o To develop a site specialist and research interest. This will include developing clinical research and entering patients into appropriate national and international studies.o To develop and participate in collaborative initiatives, having a high regard for clinical effectiveness and to the practice of evidence-based medicine.o To participate in audit and teaching and to have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).

Qualifications / Clinical Skills

Essential

  • Full GMC Specialist Registration in Anaesthetics or due to obtain CCT within 6 months of interview date. CESR applicants must have GMC Specialist Registration at the point of application
  • MB ChB or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent

Desirable

  • Higher Degree
  • Leadership experience
  • Clinical Governance experience

Special Knowledge / Abilities / and / or experience

Essential

  • Appropriate experience in training grade posts at SpR/SR level
  • Equivalent training accepted by Royal College / GMC for Specialist Registrar
  • Computer skills and Good IT skills
