Job summary
This is a full time ENT consultant post with a special interest in Otology and Lateral Skull Base Surgery. The post holder will also be expected to carry out some general ENT surgery.
The post will be based at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals. Work is also carried out at King's College Hospital, including a ward round, and it is a requirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the Trust, either on an ongoing or temporary basis according to the demands of the service.
The post holder will be expected to take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training, and to contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development.
The post holder will participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care.
Main duties of the job
o The post holder must be medically/dentally qualified and maintain GMC or GDC specialist registration and hold a licence to practise.
o To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the role.
o To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care programmed activities.
o To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
o To participate in on-call duties 1:15.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of ENT services to Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust to include:
Clinical: Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the Trust in such hospitals, health centres or clinics or other premises as required. Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.

Professional Qualifications
Essential
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise and entry on the Specialist Register, or within 6 months of CCT.
- Otology Fellowship.
- Evidence of continuing professional / personal development/.
Desirable
- Other relevant postgraduate qualifications e.g MD; PhD; MS; MSc.
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Comprehensive clinical experience in adult ENT surgery sufficient to undertake general practice.
- Significant experience in Otology
Clinical Skills
Essential
- A commitment to and evidence of multidisciplinary practice, working with other specialities and intensive care departments in the management of cases.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with colleagues; clinical and non-clinical, patients and their carers/relatives.
Research, Teaching skill & experience
Essential
- Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research and a demonstrable aptitude for participating in department research goals.
- Proven research ability at national level.
- Proven teaching skills and a commitment to the training of junior doctors.
- Experience of medical audit with the field of ENT.
Desirable
- Publications in the specialist field of Otology
- Teaching qualification.
