Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Nurse to join our proactive, dynamic and highly regarded IPC team. We are a small but influential service with a strong profile across the Trust, supporting safe, high-quality care at our King's Mill, Newark and Mansfield sites.

Preventing healthcare-associated infections remains a top priority both within the Trust and nationally. Your work will directly contribute to safer environments for patients, visitors and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical infection support -- Provide clinical advice and support on all infection-related issues to staff across the Trust.
  • IPC fundamentals -- Deliver guidance on core infection prevention and control practices, supported by the wider IPC team.
  • Shared caseload -- Work collaboratively with IPC Nurses/Practitioners to manage the infection control workload.
  • Designated areas & audits -- Take responsibility for specific clinical areas and audit programmes within the IPC service.
  • Policy adherence -- Ensure IPC policies are current, implemented effectively and monitored through regular auditing.

Knowledge Requirements

Essential

  • Knowledge of NMC Codes of conduct and/or guidelines of professional practice
  • Awareness of broader issues within the NHS
  • Experience in teaching and presenting
  • Ability to motivate and develop staff within the team
  • Ability to work across professional teams and organisational boundaries
  • Ability to delegate and prioritise
  • An awareness of the local and national infection prevention and control agenda e.g. Health Act, Infection related targets Understanding of clinical governance and its application to practice
  • Post registration nursing experience
  • Awareness of national infection prevention and control issues e.g. Hygiene Code, Saving Lives
  • Excellent clinical skills and has the ability to implement these in practice and is able to impart knowledge to all grades of staff
  • Up to date and evidenced based knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
  • Clinically credible and competent

Desirable

  • Managerial, leadership and organisational skills
  • Experienced mentor

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse (level 1) Degree level, with significant post-registration experience
  • Either working towards or willing to work towards a recognised qualification in Infection Prevention and Control
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • First degree level
  • Evidence of managerial development
  • A teaching qualification e.g. ENB 998

Experience

  • Significant post registered experience within an Acute Hospital
