Job summary
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to join the Adult ADHD Service at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery and development of a specialist service supporting adults through the ADHD diagnostic and treatment pathway.
Working under the supervision of our psychological lead and operational team manager, the post holder will support the planning and administration of the ADHD diagnostic pathway. The role involves contributing to psychoeducation workshops, supporting clinical audits and service evaluation projects, and assisting with data collection and analysis to inform service improvement.
The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to high-quality, patient-centred care. They will also play a role in developing workshop materials, supporting outreach initiatives, and ensuring accurate clinical record-keeping and communication with patients and referrers.
This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a specialist mental health service, develop clinical and research skills, and contribute to service development within a supportive and values-driven organisation.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will support the delivery of the Adult ADHD Service, contributing to a structured diagnostic and treatment pathway under the supervision of a qualified psychologist and operational manager.
Key responsibilities include supporting the coordination and administration of referrals, maintaining accurate clinical records, and communicating effectively with patients and referrers. The post holder will assist in the development and delivery of psychoeducation workshops and contribute to multidisciplinary discussions regarding patient care.
The role involves undertaking clinically related administrative duties, including managing referrals, updating clinical systems, and producing reports or data summaries. The post holder will support audit, service evaluation, and research activities by collecting, analysing, and presenting data to inform service improvements.
They will also contribute to service development initiatives and attend relevant meetings. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will uphold high standards of communication, professionalism, and patient-centred care, including communicating sensitive information appropriately.
The role includes participation in regular supervision and ongoing professional development within a supportive NHS environment.
Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
Essential
- An honours degree in Psychology 2:1
- Entitlement to Graduate membership of the British Psychological society
Desirable
- Post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis
Experience
Essential
- Experience of a paid role working in services for people with mental health difficulties, learning disability or brain injury
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
Essential
- High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive
- Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems, learning disabilities and/or other disabilities
- An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to health and social service contexts
Desirable
- Experience using computers for databases or data analysis
- High standard of report writing
