Job summary
Acute Medicine currently has two Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) vacancies and is seeking applications from both qualified Band 8a ANPs and registered nurses who wish to develop into the ANP role through Advanced Clinical Practice training.
Applicants who are already qualified as Advanced Nurse Practitioners will be appointed directly into a substantive Band 8a role. Applicants requiring training will be appointed at Band 6 or Band 7, depending on their current level of knowledge, skills and experience, and will be supported to undertake the University of Chester's Advanced Clinical Practice MSc (Apprenticeship route).
On successful completion of the programme, trainees will progress to a substantive Band 8a ANP position.
Trainee ANPs will be based within Acute Medicine throughout their training programme, gaining the knowledge, skills and clinical competencies required for advanced practice while working alongside the wider multidisciplinary team.
Our ANPs are highly valued members of the multidisciplinary team and are well supported by both medical and senior nursing colleagues. The role offers excellent opportunities for professional development, autonomy, service development and career progression within Acute Medicine.
Main duties of the job
Successful candidates will work across the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Urgent Medical Assessment Centre (UMAC) and Acute Medicine Clinic, alongside Consultants, Specialty Doctors, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and nursing colleagues, undertaking duties appropriate to their level of experience, competence and stage of training.
Qualified Band 8a ANPs will provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients presenting to Acute Medicine, working autonomously within their scope of practice and contributing to patient flow, admission avoidance, safe discharge planning and service development across AMU, UMAC and the Acute Medicine Clinic.
For candidates undertaking Advanced Clinical Practice training, the role will provide a structured development pathway to support progression to an autonomous ANP role. Trainees will gain experience in advanced clinical assessment, decision-making and the management of acute medical presentations within Acute Medicine. Protected learning time will be provided to support completion of the educational requirements of the Advanced Clinical Practice MSc programme.
The successful candidate will be passionate about delivering high-quality patient care and improving patient outcomes. They will thrive in a fast-paced acute environment, demonstrate excellent communication and teamworking skills, and be keen to contribute to an innovative multidisciplinary workforce within Acute Medicine.
