An exciting opportunity has arisen for a newly qualified or early-career Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and supportive Acute Speech and Language Therapy Team.
This is a generalist rotational role within acute services, offering the opportunity to develop skills in the assessment and management of communication and swallowing disorders in adult patients across a range of clinical areas.
You will work closely with experienced therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.
The successful candidate will demonstrate good communication, teamwork, and organisational skills and is committed to developing clinical knowledge. Main duties of the job
Provide assessment and treatment for patients with communication and/or swallowing difficulties under supervision Manage adefined caseload, prioritising and organising workload effectively Deliver evidence-based therapy programmes and support safe swallowing management Work collaboratively with ward teams, dietitians, nurses, and medical staff Contribute to patient and carer education, including communication strategies and dietary advice Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in line with professional standards Take part intraining, supervision, and service development activities

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes ,community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent , improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care , advice and support.

Qualifications
Essential
- Degree (or equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy
- HCPC registration (or working towards registration)
- Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) (or willingness to join)
Desirable
- vidence of relevant post-graduate training (e.g., dysphagia awareness)
Experience
Essential
- Relevant undergraduate clinical placements across adult services
- Experience of assessing and managing communication and/or swallowing disorders (via placements or employment)
- Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team
Desirable
- Placement or experience within an acute hospital setting
- Experience of working with patients with dysphagia
- Experience in stroke, respiratory, or general medical settings
