Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Infection Prevention and Control Team (IPCT) -We are looking to a band 7 infection prevention and control nurses to join the IPCT base at North Middlesex University Hospital (part of the Royal Free London group). We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive, motivated and/or experienced infection prevention & control nurse to take up a post within our IPCT. You must have or be working towards level 3 Infection prevention and control modules, studying and /or completed a full BSc in Infection prevention and Control. You should have minimum two years' experience in infection prevention and control working as band 6 or above. You will need to have a recognised teaching qualification with proven leadership and management qualities.

Main duties of the job

  1. To provide a nursing service within infection prevention and control by receiving direct referrals.

  2. To use advanced clinical judgement to plan, implement and evaluate care for patients with complex physical and psychological problems, including the interpretation of microbiology and virology results as authorised on the results system, referring to clinical lead when necessary.

  3. To manage an agreed caseload, under the supervision of the matron infection prevention and control, using in depth knowledge of the patient / client group.

  4. To provide essential advisory and psychological care to patients referred to the service and nursing service in general.

  5. To document all care given using the Trust guidelines.

  6. To act as an expert role model in nursing care to other nurses within the trust and IC team and assist in the management and supervision of junior team members.

  7. To contribute to the development of nursing guidelines / protocols at a local / network level, including infection prevention and control policies.

  8. In conjunction with the infection prevention and control team, identify possible risks of infection and investigate all outbreaks of infection.

  9. To participate in the audit and monitoring of the general hospital environment. This includes the provision of advice on the infection prevention and control aspects of procurement of equipment, fixtures and fittings and the provision of infection prevention and control advice of service changes or developments

Essential

  • oRGN (A) essential
  • oAppropriate teaching certificate or extensive teaching experience (A) essential.
  • oMust have Level 3 Infection Prevention and Control module
  • oMust have or be working towards degree level education/ modules in infection prevention and control
  • Teaching qualification/ mentorship ENB 998 or equivalent

Desirable
