Job summary

We are excited to offer an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join our newly established Emergency Surgery Assessment Care Unit (ESACU).

This is a pivotal role within a dynamic, fast-paced environment designed to deliver rapid assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients presenting with acute surgical conditions. You will work at an advanced clinical level, playing a key role in shaping and developing this innovative service.

You will be an experienced ANP with a strong clinical background in emergency, acute, or surgical care. You will demonstrate excellent clinical reasoning, decision-making skills, and the ability to work autonomously in a high-pressure environment.

Main duties of the job

Our Emergency Surgery Assessment Care Unit is a new, forward-thinking service focused on:

Rapid triage and assessment of emergency surgical patientsAvoidance of unnecessary admissionsDelivering high-quality, patient-centred careEnhancing patient flow and improving outcomes

Key Responsibilities

Perform advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with acute surgical presentationsIndependently manage a defined caseload while working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary teamRequest, interpret, and act upon diagnostic investigationsInitiate and evaluate comprehensive management plans, including prescribing where appropriateFacilitate timely patient flow through the ESACU, supporting same-day emergency care pathwaysProvide clinical leadership and expert advice to nursing and junior medical staffContribute to service development, quality improvement, and implementation of evidence-based practiceSupport education, mentorship, and training within the team
