Job summary
As an Advanced Specialist Biomedical Scientist, youll use your expert knowledge in transfusion and/or transplantation science to deliver high quality investigations that directly support safe patient care. Youll interpret complex results, guide clinical colleagues, and help shape scientific practice across the laboratory. Youll also lead by exampletraining others, refining our processes, and championing quality so we keep improving. Main duties of the job
- In this role you will be an expert in transfusion/transplantation science. You will undertake a range of scientific procedures using specialist scientific knowledge, performing automated and/or manual investigations. Your key responsibilities will include: Analysing, interpreting, validating, transmitting and reporting the results of routine and complex investigations, working at the level of responsibility and conduct required of a registered Biomedical Scientist and be able to communicate highly complex information, including technical and scientific analysis, verbally, in writing and electronically to work colleagues and clinical or medical staff.
- You will be expected to provide specialist advice to the centre, clusters of centres and hospitals in the region in own area of expertise and provide specialist training to new members of the team, acting as a mentor to developing staff.
- You will be responsible for the daily allocation of workload and supervision of staff in the department, working to ensure is performed to high standards and meeting regulatory and quality requirements to ensure patient safety is the focus of all work performed.

Qualifications
Essential
- MSc or equivalent in transfusion / transplantation or relevant science or Equivalent specialist knowledge gained by examination of a professional body e.g. FIBMS or Diploma from BBTS or BSHI.
- To have completed a formal post graduate training program together with in service experience or alternative in service experience.
- Member of a professional body e.g. British Blood Transfusion Society (BBTS)/ British Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (BSHI).
- Demonstrate committment to and evidence of own Continued Professional Development (CPD).
- Requirement for HCPC professional registration required (which must be maintained in the role.
Experience
Essential
- In depth knowledge of Transfusion/ Transplantation science.
- High level of expertise in relevant transfusion specialism, ideally demonstrated by publications.
- High level of proficiency in relevant specialised laboratory techniques/ environments.
- In depth knowledge and evidence of application of the standards of Good Manufacturing Practice, Good Laboratory Practice, Clinical Pathology Accreditation UKBTS and BCSH and other relevant or statutory guidelines.
- Supervisory experience.
- In depth understanding of NHSBT and wider healthcare community.
- Extensive experience in working in a diagnostic/testing laboratory.
- Evidence of involvement in research and development projects.
