Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and highly skilled Clinical Psychologist to join the Orthopaedic Psychological Support Team, a Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation (CPFT) Service on a secondment/fixed term contract. The postholder will join a dedicated team supporting children, young people, adults, families and staff affected by the orthopaedic incident and ongoing clinical review of the surgeon's work.

Initially based at the Beacon Centre in Fulbourn, the postholder will work with managers and clinical leads, to deliver a high-quality psychological therapies service within the Orthopaedic Psychology Service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be delivering psychologically informed support to people experiencing psychological distress relating to their healthcare experiences. They will provide specialist psychological assessments, formulation and treatment of clients referred to the Orthopaedic Psychology service, upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care.

1. To contribute to the development and promotion of best practice in psychology across the service, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of clinical psychology and related disciplines.2. To maintain and develop the profile of psychology within the Trust, regionally and nationally as appropriate during all professional contacts with patients, carers, colleagues and the public.3. To contribute to the reduction of risk in areas of responsibility.4. To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Trust policies and procedures.5. To produce psychological reports and notes in a timely manner and to provide management information in line with Trust policies and procedures in a timely manner.6. To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health.7. Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

• Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS, or a BPS Statement of Equivalence.
• Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council

Desirable

• Chartered Clinical Psychologist

Experience

Essential

• Experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in-patient settings.
• Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
• Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different contexts.
• Extensive experience working with children and families in a paediatric medical setting

Desirable

• Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.

Skills/ Abilities

Essential

• Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, psychological formulation, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. This requires the use of highly developed analytical and judgement skills.
• Skills in individual and group work and in programme planning.
• Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information, including contentious and highly distressing information, to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
• Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance, including regular supervision, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
• Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.

Desirable

• High Level Knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies
• Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
• Knowledge of the impact of health conditions on children, adolescents and their families.
