Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our busy team as an Advanced Physiotherapist Practitioner. The role is 23 hours per week. The role will be based at Wansbeck General Hospital though the successful candidate may be required to work at other sites depending on service needs. There may a requirement to work as a First Contact Practice Physiotherapist (FCP); experience and accreditation as a First Contact Practice Physiotherapist (FCP) would be desirable, but not essential.

The successful applicant will assist in the planning, delivery and evaluation of the Physiotherapy and Clinical Assessment and Triage Service (CATS) provided within the Joint Musculoskeletal And Pain Service (JMAPS) in Northumberland. JMAPS CATS clinics are based at Hexham General Hospital, Wansbeck General Hospital, Alnwick Infirmary and Berwick Infirmary as well as some smaller community sites.

The post-holder will also supervise and coordinate the delegation of treatment tasks and other non clinical duties to qualified and unqualified staff. You must be organised and offer highly specialist advice e.g. case conferences, multi-disciplinary meetings, service planning and development meetings.

Driving licence is essential for this post.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide an advanced level of clinical expertise in the assessment, diagnosis and management of highly complex patients, providing an expert Physiotherapy resource to primary care and secondary care.
  • Working across Northumbria Healthcare NHS trust as a lead specialist clinician for an identified Physiotherapy team providing highly specialised advice & programmes of care.
  • To work independently and autonomously managing a varied and highly complex caseload requiring expert clinical reasoning skills.
  • To provide clinical education, training, supervision and support to all grades of Physiotherapy staff and students within the speciality area.

  • To plan and implement training at a uni and multi professional level in order to enhance services within the specialism and ensure effective clinical practice across Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust.
  • The post holder will initiate, facilitate and participate in research and audit within the specialism.
  • To be responsible for standards of practice within a defined sub- specialist field.
  • To support the Physiotherapy Clinical Managers in planning and service development.
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching topromote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSC Honours degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • Member of the Health Professionals Council
  • Member of relevant clinical interest group, e.g.ACPIN or AGILE and trust wide special interest groups
  • Proven expertise inclusive of completing professionally recognised post registration training at Masters level or equivalent, with evidence of continuous professional development and the commitment to implement and facilitate this with all staff within the service.
  • Evidence of undertaking modules to Masters level by completion of accredited courses within chosen speciality e.g. Action Research, McKenzie accredited practitioner, Injection Diploma etc.
  • Recognised qualification and experience in the supervision of undergraduate students

Desirable

  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial post graduate experience to include previous experience in a specialist post

Desirable

  • Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
  • Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods
