This is an opportunity to become part of a team that provides nursing care to children and young people in a variety of community settings.

Main duties of the job

As a Registered Nursing Associate, you will be responsible for delivering high quality clinical care undertaking a full range of routine care and clinical tasks for children and young people in ourcare as directed by the registered nurse within the Community Children's Nursing service.

You will work alongside registered nurses and MDT within the community children's services in Harrow.

You will need to be NMC registered, and will be required to work within the NMC Code of Practice and Professional guidelines.

About us

The Community Children's Nursing Team consists of Community Children's Nurses, Special School Nurses, Children's Asthma Nurse and HEN Dietician, providing clinical nursing care, training and support to children, young people (aged 0-19) and their carers at home, special schools or other community settings, enabling them to remain safely in the community and transition to adult services where appropriate.

Our team look after the following children and young people in the community:

  • Children with acute and short-term conditions
  • Children with long term conditions
  • Children with disabilities and complex conditions, including neonates
  • Children with life-limiting and life-threatening illness, including palliative and end-of-life-care.
  • Children in special school settings.

Job responsibilities

Clinical aspects of the role may include:

  • Under the supervision and instruction of the registered nurse or health professional, carry out relevant clinical skills within the role, including medication administration.
  • Monitor the condition and health needs of CYPs within their care on a continual basis in partnership with families and carers and other health professionals.
  • Perform and record clinical observations including blood pressure, O2Saturatons, temperature, respirations and pulse, acting within Trust standards to respond to abnormal results, escalating as necessary.
  • Contribute to ongoing assessment recognising when it is necessary to refer to others for reassessment within the boundaries of confidentiality.
  • Adhere to legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines both local and national.
  • Regularly attend workplace and staff engagement meetings and contribute positively to discussions about the improvement of care.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register
  • Nursing Associate foundation degree qualification

Desirable

  • Clinical skills such as enteral feeding, observations, oxygen monitoring.
  • Tracheostomy knowledge and experience.
  • Medication Administration

Experience

Essential

  • Understand the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team and the organisation; including how the role may contribute to service development.
  • Understand and act in line with NMC professional standards for practice contained within The Code.
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice.
  • Understand requirements for NMC professional revalidation.
  • Understand the importance of following procedures, polices and treatment or care plans.
  • Experience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate.
  • Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information.

  • Flexible working to meet the needs of the service, this may be on occasions outside normal office hours
