An opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to support and develop the Service, including Gynaecology oncology services at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is available.
If successful, will join an existing team of 15 consultants providing acomprehensive Obstetrics & Gynaecology Service to the western part of North Nottinghamshire and, in particular, the residents of Mansfield, Ashfield and Newark Districts. There will be an expectation that the post holder will contribute to a 1 in 12 on-call rota, designed to meet the requirement of 60 hours per week consultant presence on the Birthing Unit but additionally to help meet the recommendations for safe Obstetric care detailed within the Ockenden Report.
Main duties of the job
Additional expertise to complement the existing team of particular interest would be areas of high risk antenatal care, preterm birth prevention and risk management/governance.
- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients
- To share knowledge with the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department
- Teaching and training of junior staff and medical students
- To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
- To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME)
- Develop maternal medicine leadership role and service development

Qualifications
Essential
- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview
- MRCOG
- Colposcopy accreditation
- Advanced laparoscopic skills (e.g. GSC, Gynaeoncology SITM)
Desirable
- Hysteroscopy SITM or equivalent
Experience
Essential
- Experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the job plan
- Ability to maintain clinical credibility and authority with a multi-professional team including senior trainees
- Ability to lead labour ward and manage the acute obstetric workload
- Ability to perform laparoscopic hysterectomy
- Experience of leading an MDT
Desirable
- Five years supervised training in an appropriate SpR equivalent training programme
