Main duties of the job
The post holder will:

DevelopandsupporttheSubspecialtyService,ensuringrobustpathwaysareinplacefora highquality,modernpatientexperience.

Supervise, train and mentor optometrists and orthoptists within the service.

Specificallyadopt,inconjunctionwithcolleagues,anactiveroleintheplanning,developmentanddeliveryoftheOphthalmologyserviceforthedepartment.

Providedirectinputtopatients;contributetomultidisciplinaryteamsandleadtheco-ordinationofcareforpatientswithinPrestonandChorleyhospitals.

Promotehighprofessionalstandardsofclinicalcareforpatients,boththroughdirectpatientcareandbythemaintenanceofcontinuingprofessionaldevelopment.

Assumeacontinuouscommitmentforthecareofpatients,evenifemployedlessthanfull-timeandensurethatadequatearrangementsaremadeforleaveandoffdutyperiods.

DevelopcloselinkswithGeneralPractitionersand Optometristsoperatinginthearea.

About us
A team of 13Consultants deliver Ophthalmology services across both hospital sites and within a community setting. The department is supported by 1 Associate Specialist, 2 Specialty Doctors,3North West Deanery trainees, 2McHtrainees and 2 Trust Grade doctorsas well asa team of Orthoptists/Optometrists.Our clinics aresubspecialistand we no longer have general clinics.We provide care for all major subspecialtiesincluding:medical retina, vitreoretinal,paediatric, glaucoma, cornea,oculoplastics, cataract clinics, emergency ophthalmology.
The Ophthalmology department at Lancashire Teachinghospitalsis a dynamic, progressiveservice which is basedacross 2sites (Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District Hospital). Our primary location isthe newlyopened LancashireEye Centre situated in Chorley District Hospital. The Centre was funded throughan£18 million investment andcomprisesa 3storeybuild with modern,state of the artoutpatient and daycasefacilities on one site.There are over 20consultrooms in outpatients and 3 modern spacious theatres.The unitisequipped with modern diagnosticfacilities andinfrastructure to providehigh qualitycare.
As part of the service expansion, anadditional40 support staffwere recruitedincluding ophthalmic technicians,administrative and nursing staff.

- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
- MBBS or equivalent
- FRCOPhth or equivalent
- Must be entered on the Specialist Register (or entry within 6 months)

- Management course/ certification
Experience
