Job summary

The Deputy Director - Technology is a senior leadership role within the Digital directorate, responsible for leading the delivery of safe, reliable and secure technology services that underpin clinical and operational care across the Trust.

Reporting to the Chief Digital Information Officer, the post holder will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Trust's technology function, ensuring that infrastructure, networks, systems and cyber security services are resilient, high performing and aligned to organisational priorities.

The role will play a key part in supporting the delivery of the Trust's Digital Strategy through effective use of technology to improve quality, productivity and staff experience. Working in partnership with clinical, operational and corporate colleagues, the post holder will ensure that digital capabilities are fully embedded into service delivery, enabling high quality care for patients.

The Deputy Director will lead a large and complex technology function, driving continuous improvement, innovation and adoption of emerging technologies, while ensuring value for money and alignment to financial and regulatory requirements.

Main duties of the job

he Deputy Director of Technology provides senior leadership for the Trust's technology function, ensuring the delivery of safe, secure and resilient infrastructure and digital services that underpin clinical and operational care.

The post holder will lead the development and delivery of the Trust's technology strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and national digital requirements. This includes supporting improvements in quality, productivity, patient experience and staff effectiveness.

The role is responsible for the performance and reliability of the Trust's technology estate, including networks, cloud services and core systems. This includes ensuring high availability and security of clinical systems and leading the delivery of major technology programmes such as infrastructure modernisation and system upgrades.

The post holder will lead cyber security, ensuring compliance with national standards, effective management of digital risk, and robust business continuity arrangements.

The Deputy Director will lead and develop Technology teams, ensuring the workforce has the capability and capacity to deliver current and future priorities.

The role will work in partnership with clinical, operational and corporate leaders, manage technology budgets, oversee supplier performance, and drive innovation and continuous improvement.

The Deputy Director of Technology is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management and continuous improvement of the Trusts technology services and infrastructure. The post holder will ensure the delivery of safe, secure, resilient and high performing digital systems that underpin clinical care and operational services across the organisation.

Working as part of the senior Digital leadership team, the role will ensure that technology services are aligned to the Trusts strategic objectives, enabling improvements in quality, efficiency and patient and staff experience.

The post holder will lead the Technology function, overseeing infrastructure, networks, cyber security, cloud services and core systems, and will ensure technology capabilities are developed and delivered in line with national requirements and best practice.

Hybrid/office working with frequent VDU use and travel to meetings as required. The role requires high levels of concentration, resilience, and the ability to operate effectively at a senior level.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Masters/ Postgraduate education or similar academic qualifications with highly specialised or advanced knowledge
  • Evidence of leadership and management training and development
  • Highest level of managerial knowledge or equivalent levels of experience such as strategic leadership or through managing a complex function
  • Evidence of on-going personal and professional development

Knowledge/Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in senior leadership roles within healthcare, NHS, or a related sector, with a strong track record in transformation and digital innovation.
  • Proven expertise in leading complex digital transformation programs, including the deployment of healthcare IT systems and digital technologies.
  • Experience of delivering executive leadership in skills and career path to DDaT professional leaders in the constituent organisations and professionalisation generally of the workforce in digital and data enabled transformation
  • Strong knowledge of the healthcare environment, NHS policies, and the key challenges and opportunities associated with digital health
  • Experience in managing large budgets and delivering technology-driven change within financial constraints.
  • Proven experience of negotiating complex contracts, managing customer expectations, influencing commissioning decisions and developing business case

  • Experience in cloud computing, digital collaboration tools, and data management platforms.
