Mental Health Support Teams in Manchester, Salford and Trafford will form part of a Thrive In Education model working in an integrated manner with our partnership agencies from the voluntary sector and provide 'Getting Help' and 'Getting Advice' as part of the MFT Thrive offer.
The Thrive In Education team will work flexibly in and around several educational settings, working alongside education colleagues to develop and provide preventive and early help support to meet the needs of their pupils experiencing low intensity mental health issues, mainly anxiety and low mood . A multi professional team around the school has been developed to work collaboratively to support schools including professionals from Educational Psychology, 42nd Street, Manchester Mind, Place2Be, School nurses. .
Main duties of the job
Trafford, Salford and Manchester Mental Health Support Team (MHST) forms part of a Thrive In Education model working in an integrated manner with our partnership agencies from the voluntary sector.
The MHST Thrive In Education Team has three core functions:-
- To deliver evidence-based interventions for mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
- Support the mental health leads in schools/colleges to deliver a whole school approach to wellbeing and mental health.
- Provide advice and guidance to education staff and liaise with specialist services to support children and young people to remain in education through the right support.
- The team work flexibly in educational settings, alongside education colleagues to develop and provide preventive, evidence based interventions to support to children & young people with mild to moderate mental health issues. This includes offering individual and group sessions to young people and parent/carers.
- Staff training, consultation and advice
- Liaison & signposting to relevant support services across the borough.

What is a DBS Check?
A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:
Standard DBS: Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.
Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police thats considered relevant to the role.
Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the childrens and/or adults barred lists.
Who Needs a DBS Check

The Costs for a DBS
At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

Essential
- A recognised qualification in any of the below: ? An Education Mental Health Practitioner ? A Children and Young Persons Wellbeing Practitioner ? PG Dip CBT ? Mental health/Children's nurse ? Occupational Therapy ? Social work ? Registered / accredited with relevant regulatory body (or awaiting registration/accreditation)
Desirable
- Degree educated in relevant area such as Psychology, Health and Social Care, Child Development.
Experience
Essential
- Proven experience of working effectively with people with mental health difficulties.
- Experience of delivering low intensity interventions in school and education environments as part of IAPT training.
- Experience of assessing and managing risk: including safeguarding.
- Experience of providing evidenced based assessments, formulations and treatment packages.
- Experience of caseload management, working within a multi-disciplinary mental health setting.
- Experience of gathering clinical evidence, reports and information as part of signposting to other internal or external pathways.
- Experience of liaison and working with a range of other relevant agencies within a community model.
- Understanding of Clinical Governance and impact on clinical practice
