An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join the multidisciplinary team at Dementia Wellbeing Service.This is a 37.5 hour post within Older Adult Mental Health,providingexcellentopportunityto develop and enhance your clinical skills within the OT framework.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering holistic, client centred care, focusing on promoting independence and maintaining functional skills.You will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to support effective post diagnostic rehabilitation for patients.

Main duties of the job

The post holder willbe requiredto develop positive relationships between all healthcare professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies,maintaininggood communicationacross all areas.

The post holder willbe responsible forthe assessment,planningand intervention for people living with dementia in the community.

There will be opportunity to develop group work skills and deliver evidenced based interventions such as Journey through Dementia andHome Based Memory Rehabilitation.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

About us

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post is advertised as a Band 6. However, applicants who do not currently meet all the skills and competences for the Band 6 role are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will be appointed under Agenda for Change Arrangement for Pay and Banding of Trainees (Annex 21) supported by a development plan for 2 years.

During thefirst year payment will be 70% of the top rate of Band 6 pay, and the second year 75%.

Following successful completion and successful attainment of skills and competences for the role, the post holder will then be paid at Band 6 (minimum point on the scale). Continued support and supervision will be provided in order todevelop theminto the Band 6 role.

Failureto achieve the competencies in the designatedtimeframecould result in re-deployment.

As part of the Annex 21 process, there is no financial penalty to those who apply for this role where the percentage will cause a reduction in pay, subsequently a local protection would be put in place until the pay has caught up.

This role is not suitable for a Newly Qualified Occupational Therapist; candidates are required to have gained postgraduate experience in an Occupational Therapy role.

Occupational Therapists within Hywel Dda have access to regular supervision and annual PADRs. Continuing professional development opportunities include attending Clinical Practice meetings, Clinical Case Supervision, Peer Support opportunities, Occupational Therapy specific training and opportunities to engage in Post Graduate Qualifications.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Knowledge of relevant current health and social care legislation applicable to role.
  • Knowledge and application of Microsoft Office software
  • Understanding of the roles of other staff groups in health and social care
  • Knowledge of a range of rehabilitation interventions across all therapies
  • Understanding and application of clinical governance, including research and audit methodology
  • Understanding and application of relevant outcome measures to demonstrate effectiveness.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of other services that link across primary/secondary/intermediate care
  • Working knowledge of therapeutic equipment.
  • Knowledge of Health Board and priorities.
  • Accredited Practice Educator
  • Accredited Agored Assessor

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post graduate experience of working as an Occupational Therapist across a range of settings and variety of conditions
  • Managing a complex and varied caseload
  • Working independently with indirect or arms length supervision.
  • Delegation and supervision of staff
  • Experience of coping independently with distressing or emotional situations in a challenging work environment
  • Working as part of a team
  • Experience of contributing to service development and implementing service changes
  • Direct involvement with carers and families
  • Self-development and application of learning
  • Use of adapted techniques for improving patient outcomes

Desirable

  • Experience of working with groups
  • Experience of working in a community setting
  • Experience of using virtual communication platforms for delivering service.
