Job summary

We are looking for an experienced applied psychologist holding doctoral level professional qualifications to cover the existing post holder whilst on parental leave.

It offers the opportunity to work with multi disciplinary colleagues to develop a trauma informed Crisis Pathway across the physical health psychological medicine department, the Home Treatment Team and Crisis services, to ensure a systematic provision of a highly specialist, multilevel psychology service that is cost-effective, culturally appropriate and based on best clinical and professional practice and that meets Crisis Pathway and Trust and objectives, national strategic, and policy guidelines, commissioner requirements and user and carer needs and expectations. As an experienced applied psychologist the post holder will provide training, supervision and governance to junior practitioners such as trainees and assistants and colleagues from other disciplines such as nursing and medicine in applied psychological methods, theory and practice.

A large part of the role will be liaising with other services in the community and acute services in City & Hackney, as well as working closely with different staff groups, as well as psychological staff in other services across City and Hackney particularly in the new Community Model in City & Hackney.

This role is based in City & Hackney Centre for Mental Health, Homerton University Hospital.

Main duties of the job

  1. To provide supervision and 'liaison-consultation' services to enable and support client related work undertaken by other members of the MDTs.
  2. To continue the development of the Crisis Pathway psychological provision over the Pathway including Homerton supervision and 'liaison-consultation' services to enable and support client related work undertaken by other members of the Psychological Medicine, Home Treatment, and Urgent Assessment Team
  3. To supervise qualified, trainee and assistant psychologists and other psychological professions staff attached to the service
  4. To continue the development and implementation of psychology service and team policies and service development and for proposing and implementing/supporting the implementation of policy or service changes and developments (including changes in clinical practice and policy) which impact beyond the post holders own area of activity (impacting for example on the work of other disciplines, departments, professionals and members of the MDT within the Directorate and on the work of others in other Directorates or service areas

Person Specification

Academic

Essential

  • Accredited Doctorate in Applied Psychology ie Clinical or Counselling Psychology or equivalent (statement of equivalence (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996)
  • HCPC registration as Registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist
  • Training in Supervision

Desirable

  • Relevant specialist training or qualifications in neuropsychology.
  • Leadership training

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in Health psychology services, or neuropsychology services or older adults
  • Well developed experience of work with people with severe, complex and chronic mental health and physical health problems
  • Substantial post-qualification experience within an acute/severe mental health setting
  • Working with interpreters to facilitate communication with people from different cultures

Desirable

  • Experience of liaison and joint work with other statutory agencies, including crisis management
  • Experience of training in trauma informed care
  • Mention of City & Hackney population

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Accredited Doctorate in Applied Psychology ie Clinical or Counselling Psychology or equivalent (statement of equivalence (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) and able to demonstrate eligibility for BPS CPsychol (Chartered Psychologist)
  • HCPC registration as Registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist
  • Relevant specialist training or qualifications in neuropsychology
