Job summary

Are you an enthusiastic learning disability nurse who would like the opportunity to grow professionally?

We are looking for a band 5 learning disability nurse, who can gain experience and expertise in the role and progress to a Band 6 within 12 months of recruitment.

The successful candidate will be supported to complete a robust period of induction and probation, with a view to achieving all expected outcomes and therefore progress into a more senior role. If you are interested, then this may be the role for you.

We are a small team on 3 learning disability nurses and a senior support worker, working to support the children and young people of Salford with a learning disability. we are a forward thinking, family friendly team who are keen to support each other to progress and learn.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within the Children's Learning Disability Team. He / She is responsible for the assessment of children's care needs, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care within the learning disability caseload generic caseload of acute, chronic and life limiting conditions.

To provide evidence based advice and support to parents of children with a diagnosis of a Learning disability and/or Autism Spectrum Condition.

To complete behaviour functional assessments for children with challenging behaviours

To complete Positive Behaviour Support Plans

To provide sleep management advice to parents/carers

To work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team framework

To participate in project and group work, to enhance service delivery, in order to meet national and local targets.

To contribute to the planning, delivery of service developments

To support the SEND agenda and the NHS long term plan in delivery care through the transitional years.

  • Mentorship qualification or willingness to undertake training . First degree in Nursing or related subject

  • Experience of teaching others such as students and other learners.
  • Experience working with children and child centred play strategies
  • Positive behaviour support and working with children presenting with challenging behaviours
  • Knowledge on sleep hygiene

  • Experience of working in the community
  • Knowledge of transition process for children and young people .
  • Awareness of national guidelines and legislation relating to health and social care and the provision of services for learning disability
