We are looking to appoint a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in:
o General Anaesthesia
o Trauma and Orthopaedics
o Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Main duties of the job
DIMENSIONS OF JOB
10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week comprising:
o 9 PAs dedicated to anaesthetic sessions during the week and weekend trauma lists
o 1 PAs allocated to Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) for CPD

Job Planning
The Job plan will be a prospective agreement between the appointee and the deputy clinical directors for TACC, that sets out a consultants duties, responsibilities and objectives for the period of employment. It covers all aspects of a consultants professional practice including clinical work, teaching and managerial responsibilities and provides a clear schedule of commitments. In addition, it includes personal objectives, including details of links to wider service objectives, and details of support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives. Changes having budgetary or contractual implications would also need the agreement of the chief executive
Audit & Teaching
One half day per month is dedicated to audit and teaching during which time all routine work is suspended. All staff are expected to attend except for those providing emergency care cover and those on leave. The directorate meeting is also held at this time. It is assumed that every member of the department will play a full part in formal and informal teaching of medical and other staff, and this is recognized as part of Supporting Professional Activities (SPA).
CPD / Study Leave
All members of the Department are encouraged to take study leave and will be expected to undertake CME in line with the Royal College of Anaesthetists CPD requirements.

Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- FRCA or equivalent
- Listed on GMC UK Specialist Register (UKSR) or within 6 months of gaining CCT/CESR in Anaesthesia at the date of the interview
Desirable
- MRCP or similar qualification
- Postgraduate qualification in perioperative medicine
- Qualification in regional anaesthesia
SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Essential
- Able to evaluate own clinical practice.
- Able to demonstrate innovative thinking.
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to organise and develop service provision
- Management: understanding the structures of NHS hospitals and willing to play a role in the Department and in the Hospital
Desirable
- Good IT skills
- Experience in Management
- Experience in conducting high-risk anaesthetic clinic.
PROFESSIONAL / SPECIALIST EXPERIENCE
Essential
- A wide grounding during training of all aspects of anaesthesia
- Provider status in ATLS ALS and PALS (or equivalent)
- Willingness to teach undergraduate and postgraduates particularly, in the weekly protected trainee teaching sessions
- Understand principles and participated in audit activity
- Understand the principles of Clinical Governance and demonstrate experience of evidence based practice
Desirable
- Faculty in teaching courses
- Postgraduate qualification in teaching
- Relevant research experience
