Job summary
Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit a Locum Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to join our team of thirteen Consultants, based at Barnsley Hospital.
The post is offered on a fixed term full time (10 PA) basis. The successful appointee will be a soft tissue knee specialist, who will be joining two other soft tissue knee surgeon and a team of four other lower limb arthroplasty specialists and one associate specialist. They will also have an interest in orthopaedic trauma surgery. The post holder will be expected to help develop the departments soft tissue knee service which includes an acute knee clinic. They will perform all aspects of knee surgery including primary arthroplasty and excluding revision knee arthroplasty. The post holder is expected to be enthusiastic and passionate about training and education of higher surgical trainees and other registrars in the department. We are looking for a dynamic individual who will add further drive in our hospitals pursuit towards being outstanding.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Services
To provide an effective Orthopaedic Surgery Service to Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
To work closely with colleagues to provide a high quality service.
Training and Education
To take an active part in the teaching and training programme.
To contribute to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity.
To be part of the Orthopaedic teaching and training programme.
To take an active part in the South Yorkshire Orthopaedic training rotation which we have strong links with.
To be keen to be Clinical/Educational Supervisor for Higher Surgical/Core/Foundation trainees
To contribute to the training of nurses, scientific and technical staff, as appropriate.
To assist the appraisal and assessment of Junior Medical Staff in accordance with Trust guidelines.
Quality
To participate in developing a satisfactory and consistent quality of service.
To participate in clinical audit and ensure outcomes are met.
To contribute towards research projects, as appropriate.
Regular contribution to M&M
The duties are subject to review from time to time and that such changes as may be desirable to the job plan will be negotiated with the post holder. It is anticipated that a review will take place once a year.

Qualifications
Essential
- Full registration with GMC and FRCS (or equivalent). On Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCST.
- NJR registration
- Recognised & Reputed post-CCT Soft tissue knee fellowship with evidence of supervised and unsupervised lists (covering the range of procedures mentioned in Key result areas) and clinics
Desirable
- Holder of diplomas or qualifications pertinent to Orthopaedic practice.
- Awards/Scholarships
- ATLS qualified (Current)
AUDIT / CLINICAL EFFECTIVENESS
Essential
- Experience of, commitment to, and evidence of involvement in Audit and Clinical Effectiveness initiatives.
