Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to work as a Medical Laboratory Assistant.

You will support the work of the Biomedical Scientists in providing a diagnostic Microbiology Service. Your duties will include processing of samples, preparation of reagents and entering requests onto the laboratory computer system. Previous laboratory experience is required although further training will be given.Core hours are Monday to Friday 09.00 to 17.30. However, you will need to be flexible with regular working between 09.00 to 20.00 once trained and participation in weekend/bank holiday rotation. Post is for 5 x 7.5 hour days.

Kettering General NHS Foundation Trust and Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust are both part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group.   • Able to safely handle hazardous biological and chemical materials routinely, after appropriate training
  • Able to type specimen information accurately and quickly from a printed or hand-written request form
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate specimens for processing
  • Ability to concentrate to process large blocks of repetitive work
  • Can read computer display screen accurately and deal with enquiries

  • Understanding of H&S requirements in a laboratory
  • Understanding of confidential nature of patient data
