Job summary

The ACORN service is a comprehensive specialist service offering a range of therapeutic interventions on an outreach basis at HMP Whatton to individuals with problematic personality traits which are linked to difficulties with progression or risk. The service offers a suite of therapies including Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitiation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Radically Open Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (RO-DBT), and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) within tiered phases. Therapies, including socially creative sessions, psychoeducation and both group and 1:1 therapy are provided with an emphasis upon the importance of relationships and the environmental setting. There is a comprehensive OT pathway with runs within this with a focus on the development of functional daily living skills and issues relating to offending, relational difficulties and emotional management.The Trust also delivers Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) pathway services jointly with HMPPS both in the community and within custody, including a Therapeutic Community (TC) at HMP Gartree, a specialist treatment service (ACORN) at HMP Whatton, Intensive Intervention and Risk Management Services (IIRMS) and the community consultation service (CORE) in the community across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, in addition to the SOLAR Service.

Job responsibilities

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trusts Specialist Services Care Unit provides specialist treatment to individuals with personality related difficulties at HMP Whatton and HMP North Sea Camp, in addition to a Therapeutic Community at HMP Gartree (joint NHS/ HMPPS), and also offers OPD services within Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire (community provision). This position is within the Community OPD service across Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. We are keen to work with people who are interested in working across the local OPD pathway provision.

We are committed to working in partnership with the National Probation service- this service is a joint enterprise so relies on collaborative working. The successful applicant will be based within probation and work closely with Probation Practitioners to deliver a joint service. We also work in partnership with prison services, other healthcare providers and our criminal justice system partners to improve health, support justice and reduce re-offending behaviour. Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

  • Able to undertake relevant mandatory training in the Management of Violence and Aggression.

Experience

  • Experience of providing Occupational Therapy interventions in Mental Health/ Personality Disorder/ secure/ prison settings including, clinical, leadership and management roles
  • Working knowledge/experience of Learning Disability and Mental Health and Personality Disorder Policy, assessment and care pathways
  • Extensive experience of working with a wide range of professionals and MDT working
  • Extensive experience of working with multiple agencies both health and social care
  • Child and Adult Safeguarding
  • Experience of providing an OT service which considers all aspects of Equality and Diversity
  • Risk management
