Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Physiotherapist to join our service. This post offers a comprehensive rotational programme across a wide range of clinical areas, including Emergency Care, Cardiorespiratory, Elderly, Medicine, Stroke, Musculoskeletal, Orthopaedics, Critical Care, General Surgery and Paediatrics. This diversity provides an excellent foundation for developing broad clinical skills and experience.

Throughout rotations, you will be supported through regular supervision, appraisal and a structured development programme. You will also have access to a range of training and learning opportunities to support ongoing professional growth. You will be working within friendly, supportive and experienced teams who are committed to delivering high-quality patient care.

Applicants must be HCPC registered and able to demonstrate experience across a broad range of clinical placements within the NHS, either as a student or at Band 5 level.Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills are essential, along with a proactive and patient-centred approach to care.

The role requires participation in the out-of-hours rota, which includes twilight shifts (12:00-20:00), weekend working and bank holiday working requirements.

Main duties of the job

  1. To work as a Band 5 Physiotherapist providing physiotherapy assessment and treatment to patients across a range of clinical specialties and care settings.
  2. The post-holder will develop and consolidate core physiotherapy skills, knowledge and professional practice through supervised rotations, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care in line with Trust policies, professional standards and national guidance.
  3. To work within a structured rotational programme, which are typically six months in duration.
  4. The post holder will be required to demonstrate flexibility and may be required to work across different services, subject to service requirements.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as a Band 5 Physiotherapist, demonstrating professional accountability and responsibility for practice, working within Trust policies, professional standards, and legal requirements.
  2. To manage a designated caseload of patients, working with a level of autonomy appropriate to experience, under the supervision of senior physiotherapists. To seek advice, guidance, and support as required.
  3. To actively participate in structured training and development, including regular formal training sessions, clinical reasoning discussions, peer review, and case conferences as part of the rotational programme.
  4. To assess, formulate and implement physiotherapy treatment programmes for patients within own caseload, adapting interventions in response to patient presentation, progress and evidence-based practice.
  5. To contribute to discharge planning in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, ensuring safe, timely, and effective transitions of care.
  6. To demonstrate well-developed physical skills, including dexterity, coordination and sensory skills, to undertake physiotherapy assessment and treatment interventions such as manual techniques and therapeutic handling, in line with competency and training.
  7. To delegate appropriate tasks to support staff, providing guidance and supervision in line with Trust policy and professional standards.
  8. To plan, prioritise and organise own workload effectively, balancing clinical and administrative duties, including the accurate completion of statistical and activity data.
  9. To ensure the safe and effective use of the clinical environment and physiotherapy equipment, reporting faults or risks and contributing to the appropriate use and allocation of resources.
  10. To maintain accurate, comprehensive and timely clinical records in accordance with HCPC standards, Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) documentation guidelines, Trust policies and legal requirements.
  11. To contribute to the provision of a flexible and responsive physiotherapy service, including participation in out-of-hours working such as twilight shifts and weekend working, in accordance with service needs.
  12. To attend mandatory training and comply with all Trust policies, procedures and clinical governance requirements, including health and safety and infection prevention and control.
  13. To communicate effectively with managers and colleagues within the physiotherapy service and wider multidisciplinary team regarding service delivery, clinical issues and patient care, including participation in multi-professional meetings.
  14. The post holder will be required to demonstrate flexibility and may be required to work across different services, subject to service requirements.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • To hold a degree or relevant Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Physiotherapist

Desirable

  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Adhere to the CSP/HCPC Code of Ethics, Professional Conduct and Standards of practice.
  • Experience of working as a student in the NHS (or previous employment at band 5 level)
  • Knowledge of common musculoskeletal, neurological, medical and surgical conditions and their physiotherapy management
  • Ability to undertake assessment, problem solving and clinical reasoning within scope of a Band 5 role
