Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with an interest in Neuropsychology to join the successful Nottingham Community Stroke Team(CST) on a temporary basis. The post involves working as part of a multidisciplinary community stroke team providing rehabilitation up to twelve months post stroke within patient's homes. You will take the lead in the provision of psychological care to stroke patients.

As a valued member of the MDT, you will provide direct clinical work, consultation and training to staff regarding patients' psychological/neuropsychological care. You will support stepped care models for mood and cognition. Your supervision will be provided by the Clinical Lead for Neuropsychology ( member of the SRCN).

The role is temporary providing maternity cover until the end of May 2027 and would provides an opportunity to gain further experience in Neuropsychology. The role is offered at 0.6 wte 8b, it may also be offered as a secondment. It may be offered at 0.7 wte 8a depending on experience. Experience of working with patients with neurological conditions including neuropsychological assessment is essential. Completion of the knowledge component of the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the delivery of a high quality, specialist Clinical Neuropsychology service for adults up to 12 months post stroke within their home environment. This includes providing specialist neuropsychological assessment and a therapeutic service to individuals including cognitive rehabilitation, risk assessment, improving coping and adjustment to living with neurological impairment. You will be required to implement care pathways and protocols to assess and manage mood and cognition difficulties in accordance with national guidance. You will liaise with both the associated hospital stroke wards and with colleagues in Primary Care. You will support the CST team, offering advice, consultation, training and supervision regarding the neuropsychological assessment and management of stroke. The service will be run in line with relevant national guidelines and you will be encouraged to engage with appropriate CPD and networking to ensure best practice.

You must be an HCPC registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist and have substantive experience of working with people with neurological conditions. Completion of the knowledge component of the QiCN as approved by the Division of Neuropsychology would be an advantage. You must have excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with a range of professionals, patients, and families.

Job responsibilities

To deliver a specialist clinical psychology service within the Nottingham Community Stroke Team. To offer highly specialised neuropsychological assessment and evidence-based interventions as required (face to face and by telephone/video) to adults within the first 12 months post stroke living with the cognitive, emotional and behavioural consequences of stroke. To offer risk management and assessment of mental capacity.

To support the Community Stroke Team with psychological aspects of their work with patients and families/carers, offering consultation, teaching, training and joint working to support rehabilitation of the individual as appropriate.Implement care pathways and protocols for the assessment and treatment of cognition and mood related to stroke and implement within the service using a stepped care model.For more information, please see the attached job description and person specification.

Qualifications & professional membership

Essential

  • BPS accredited Doctoral Level training qualification in Clinical/Counselling Psychology
  • Health & Care Professions Council Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist: Clinical/Counselling Psychologist

Desirable

  • BPS Chartered Psychologist Status;
  • Member of The Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists/Practitioner Full Member of the Division of Neuropsychology
  • Completion of the knowledge component of the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN)
  • Experience of publishing in peer reviewed journals
  • Completion of a supervisory qualification

Experience

  • Substantive experience in clinical neuropsychology and neurorehabilitation

Physical Requirements

Essential

  • Sustained periods of sitting and is required to travel to patient homes and between NHS sites to deliver a psychological service as part of a community team. The post holder is required to move psychometric tests and portable IT equipment as required
