Job summary
We are looking for a HCPC registered biomedical Scientist to join our team as a Senior BMS. The department is happy to consider candidates with suitable experience but who do not hold a relevant Masters Degree, if the individual is successful they will be appointed under Annex 21 Band 7 terms and conditions and expected to complete the MSc.
The role is to act as supervisor within Special Service areas of the department in the general running of a sub section responsible for a new Tandem Mass Spec Therapeutic drug monitoring service, in order to maintain provision of a high quality service to patients.
Also to assist in the development and implementation of assay as required in the area of work.
We therefore require a well-motivated, self-starting enthusiastic individual to lead this new and innovative service, and participate fully in the development and implementation of all innovations.
The department is happy to consider candidates with suitable experience but who do not hold a relevant Master's Degree, if the individual not holding a relevant MSc is successful they will be appointed under Annex 21 Band 7 terms and conditions and expected to complete the MSc. As the MSc is usually a two year course if candidates have not started the MSc they will be on 70% of top of scale in their first year moving to 75% in year 2 of the course. If a candidate is appointed and they have already completed year one they will start on 75%.
Main duties of the job
Supervises on a day- to- day basis the provision of specialist tandem mass spectrometry services offered with the department,
in order to maintain the provision of a high quality service to patients.
The post holder will need to use their own initiative in the role, and will be expected to undertake both technical and clinical authorisation of results produced by basic grade staff working under their direction in the section. The service provision includes:

a) Regional Assay Service for therapeutic drug monitoring
b) Supra Regional Assay Service for Steroid Hormones (UK Service)
The provision of these services may be required outside normal working hours.
