Job summary
This is a post in ACHD Echocardiography complementing work performed by Consultants in Echocardiography and including an optional ACHD out-patient clinic.

Main duties of the job
The main aims are to support the ACHD clinical service and stress Echo service and to assist in training, teaching and protocol development for the Echo department. The post holder will also be expected to actively participate in audit and research.
About us
Excellent training opportunities are provided in advanced echocardiography with trained medical and healthcare scientist staff headed by the Director of Echocardiography. A training program is in place for clinical registrars. At present, several research programs are underway incorporating advanced cardiac techniques. A regular workshop in stress echocardiography including myocardial echocardiography for myocardial perfusion imaging with contrast has also been introduced.

Job responsibilities
Clinical
- To perform sessions in ACHD Echocardiography including Stress Echo, 3D Echo and TOE. Training in aspects of advanced echocardiography will be provided where necessary.
- To participate in ACHD out-patient care and Wimpole st stress echo service
- To participate in MDT meetings
- To participate in training of other members of staff
- To develop training protocols
Research
- The post holder will carry out research as guided by the Director of Echocardiography and Lead ACHD Echo consultant.
- The post holder will adhere to Trust strategies for research
Clinical, Technical, Departmental
- There will be a clinical commitment to maintain BSE accreditation, to obtain EACVI CHD accreditation and where possible this will be designed to complement the research work.
- Presenting at MDT meetings will be required.
- All clinical duties will be under the guidance of the Director of Echocardiography
Professional
- The post holder will maintain good working relationships with medical, technologist, engineering, nursing, clerical and other health care workers.
- The post holder will abide by the policies and procedures of the Trust, in particular those procedures relating to medical care of patients.
- The post holder will hold current certification in Advanced Life Support(ALS).
Managerial
- There are no specific managerial duties with this post.
Other
- The post holder will attend the monthly clinical departmental meetings, and the clinical academic meetings of the Echo department, at which presentations of research or other topics will be expected. Regular attendance of Royal Brompton Grand Rounds is also expected.

Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCP, FRCA, FRCS or equivalent
- Higher training in general cardiology
- Exposure to patients with ACHD
- Current GMC registration
Experience
Essential
- Specialist training in Cardiology
- Experience in ACHD transthoracic Echo
- UK/European/American accreditation or equivalent in adult TTE
- UK/European/American accreditation or equivalent in TOE
Desirable
- Well trained in Stress Echocardiography
- UK/European/American accreditation or equivalent in congenital Echo
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Essential
- Technical and clerical skills required for transthoracic & stress echo
- Knowledge of Cardiology and ACHD
- Teaching skills
- Ability to undertake research
- Wide knowledge of cardiac and thoracic physiology
