Job summary

A vacancy has arisen to join the Clinical Engineering team at Hywel Dda University Health Board.

The Clinical Engineering Department delivers medical equipment management services throughout the University Health Board.

The department provides a broad range of complex, routine and non-routine activities including servicing, repair, calibration, safety testing, quality assurance, evaluation, commissioning, decommissioning, planned preventive maintenance of clinical equipment and devices.

We currently have a vacancy for a Band 6 Senior Clinical Technologist. The successful candidate will become part of a team looking after all medical equipment in Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen and the surrounding community.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a key member of the Clinical Engineering team and will be required to largely work on their own initiative, carrying out certain planning functions in relation to preventive maintenance and inspections, along with problem solving on a wide range of complex equipment. This will include patient monitoring, anaesthetic machines, ventilators, medical lasers, infusion devices, baby incubators etc. which at times could be patient connected.

The range of tasks required of the role will be carried out to the highest standards in support of the provision of high-quality patient care. The post holder's duties and responsibilities will support a team effort and will be overseen by the local Principal Clinical Technologist and Head of Clinical Engineering. Some responsibilities will be rotated over time across the peer group, to suit the needs of the service and this will be done through agreement.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential

  • Accredited degree relevant to the role (e.g., BSc in Audiology, Cardiac Physiology, Clinical Engineering, Neurophysiology, Medical Physics, Respiratory Physiology) and Registration with AHCS or RCT within 3 months of appointment.
  • Equivalent knowledge and experience at BSc level (with or without a related degree) and Progression through AHCS/RCT Practitioner Training Programme equivalence scheme (PTPE) and Registration within 24 months of appointment
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in relevant sphere to postgraduate diploma level.
  • Working knowledge of multidisciplinary team working
  • Working knowledge of clinical governance.
  • Knowledge of audit and research.

Desirable

  • Anatomy & physiology training
  • Ventilator technical training

Language Skills

Desirable

  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1)

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience and currently working in a Clinical Engineering setting
  • Organizational, interpersonal and operational skills needed for post i.e. management of resources i.e. planning and delivery of service provision.
  • Ability to produce written and verbal reports pertinent to the post i.e. technical documentation

Desirable

  • Significant post registration experience, most recently in a specialty dealing with ventilation and anaesthetics e.g. Critical Care / Theatres.
