Main duties of the job

As a Senior Pharmacy Technician within our Prison Services Pharmacy team you will be responsible for managing the day to day running of the medications management service within HMP Erlestoke.

You will work closely with and line manage a team of Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants. You will be responsible for the teams Healthroster, work distribution, supervision and training.

You will manage the requirements of the Wholesale Dealers License on a daily basis

Job description

Job responsibilities

To organise and manage the day-to-day running of the medication management service at HMP Erlestok, reporting any immediate issues to the responsible pharmacist and any significant issues to the Regional Superintendent Prison Services Pharmacist.

To supervise, mentor and train pharmacy technicians and assistants using specialist knowledge and experience.

To label and dispense prescriptions and stock items when in the pharmacy if required.

To be an accredited checking technician (ACT) providing final accuracy checks.

To ensure, on a daily basis, that all pharmacy operations are within the requirements of the Wholesale Dealers License.

Oversee the use of JAC in the pharmacy and ensure a high standard of ordering and stock management.

To administer prescribed and stock medicines on the wings against valid prescriptions or policies (e.g, Homely Remedies Policy).

To hold a medicines optimisation accreditation (or be working towards this).

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ L3 - Pharmacy Services or equivalent
  • Accredited Checking Technician Certificate
  • GPhC Registration

Experience

Essential

  • 6 years+ working in pharmacy
  • Substancial prison/hospital/community pharmacy experience
  • Experience or desire to work in a leadership/management role

Knowledge/Skills

Essential

  • Knowledge and experience of checking dispensed prescriptions
  • Good knowledge of writing and working within a set of SOPs
