An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to lead and further develop the Trust's resuscitation service.
The postholder will provide expert clinical and professional leadership across all aspects of the resuscitation service, including the prevention, recognition, and management of the deteriorating patient and cardiac arrest. This role is pivotal in supporting the Trust's commitment to delivering safe, effective, and responsive care through the provision of specialist advice, education, and leadership.
Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across the organisation, the Senior Resuscitation Officer will provide visible leadership, influence practice and drive improvements within resuscitation.
Key responsibilities include leading the strategic development of the resuscitation service. Of which a core element will be the development, delivery, and evaluation of high-quality resuscitation education programmes across the Trust covering from Basic to advanced life support using a range of teaching methods.
The post holder will oversee audit and quality improvement initiatives, contributing to incident investigations, and supporting clinical governance and risk management frameworks.
The postholder will also provide line management and mentorship to the Resuscitation Team fostering a culture of continuous learning, accountability, preparedness, and high-quality resuscitation practice.
Main duties of the job
- Lead the strategic development and delivery of the Trust's resuscitation service
- Provide expert clinical advice to staff at all levels on resuscitation and deteriorating patients
- Develop, implement, and review resuscitation policies, protocols, and guidelines
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate a comprehensive resuscitation training programme (e.g., BLS, ILS, ALS)
- Lead on audit, quality improvement initiatives, and benchmarking of resuscitation outcomes
- Support investigation of clinical incidents and contribute to learning and risk reduction
- Ensure compliance with national standards, including Resuscitation Council UK recommendations
- Work collaboratively with senior clinicians, governance teams, and external stakeholders
- Line manage and support team members

Job Purpose
- As a member of the Education and Workforce Development team provide high quality, responsive education and development activity which support achievement of organisational objectives, strategy and priorities.
- To provide Management and Leadership to the Resuscitation Team, ensuring effective programme delivery and responsivity.
- Working with the resuscitation committee to ensure strategic planning and development of the resuscitation agenda across the organisation.
- Comprehensively respond to resuscitation concerns and queries from a range of sources using a restorative approach to ensure learning and development.
- To positively promote the resuscitation agenda
- To provide a wide range of resuscitation training from basic to advanced life support training to appropriate groups of staff. This will be in line with Trust policy, Core Skills Training Framework, the Resuscitation Council (UK) and be able to report against these in line with the mandatory requirements of the Trust
- To develop and deliver resuscitation training which reflects current evidence and policy-based practice
- To provide clinical and technical support and advice as an active member of the cardiac arrest team.
- Will also deliver training in: Anaphylaxis; and early warning systems.
- Provide training for parents/guardians of at-risk infants and children.
- Ensure resuscitation equipment requirements are met by co-ordinating the ordering of supplies through standard ordering procedures.
- Will be responsible for maintaining accurate resuscitation training records.
- Lead on the development of specialised programmes relating to resuscitation and the deteriorating patient.
- Play an active role in the multidisciplinary team of trust wide staff and stakeholders involved in resuscitation and the deteriorating patient acting as EWD representative on the Resuscitation Committee.
- To identify appropriate trials and evaluations of resuscitation and other related equipment and take a lead on such activity for the Trust
Person Specification
Qualifications & Education
Essential
- Current Registration with a UK Regulatory Body e.g. NMC, HCPC.
- Post Registration experience in acute/ critical/ emergency care setting
- Experience or qualification to Master's level experience
- Qualification in teaching or training or significant teaching/ training experience in the field of resuscitation.
- ALS or EPALS or APLS provider certificate and willing to work towards instructor status.
Desirable
- Educated to master's level in a relevant subject area
Qualifications & Education
Essential
- Management and Leadership Experience with a focus on compassionate leadership.
- Demonstrable experience in a senior education or training and development role, with experience of the entire training cycle.
Desirable
- Is a recognised ALS Instructor.
- Has a valid EPLS / APLS Certificate.
- Is an ALS / EPALS course director
- Demonstrable experience of report writing and policy development.
- Demonstrable experience of report writing and policy development

Essential
- Ability to prioritise and deliver on competing demands according to service and organisational need, often in a dynamic and pressurised environment
- Ability to plan and implement innovative methods of training and education to multidisciplinary and professional groups to drive continual service improvement.
- Ability to apply professional judgement in the context of complex decision making, making use of relevant escalation and governance frameworks where required.
- A proven ability to teach clinical skills, including Basic Life Support.
