Main duties of the job
- Work closely with ward managers to maintain and improve high standards of care and patient safety.
- Lead from the front as a Band 6, providing leadership during shifts.
- Coordinate the shift, ensuring smooth operations and patient flow.
- Attend ward rounds and actively participate in patient care discussions.
- Liaise with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure collaborative care.
- Support staff wellbeing and development, offering guidance and mentorship.
- Assist the ward manager with leadership and management responsibilities, including:
- Fostering a positive team culture.
- Coordinating service delivery.
- Ensuring the smooth running of the unit.
- Drive excellence in clinical and operational aspects of the service.

Support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse orMatron in ensuring the provision of excellentcare with compassion for the patients,relatives and visitors who are cared forwithin or by the ward, department, service orteam.
Ensure a high standard of nursing isdelivered by self and others based onassessment, planning, implementation andevaluation of care to meet patients needs inaccordance with agreed local and Nationalstandards and evidence based guidelines.
Assist and support the Ward Manager in thesafe, effective management of the areaincluding management of personnel, facilitiesand the associated systems and processes.
Act as a role model, presenting a positive imageof self, team and the organisation.
Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriateprofessional practice, delegation andsupervision of duties carried out by junior staff.
Set, monitor and maintain standards of care toimprove the patient experience and outcome ofcare.
Proactively manage risk and maintain patientsafety, conforming to health, safety and securitylegislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
Promote equality in care and practice byrecognising, respecting and meeting the needsand choices of individuals.
Ensures environment of care is safe, wellequipped and compliant with standards forhygiene and cleanliness.

- Evidence of leadership experience and learning.
- Awareness of recent advances within Nursing practice
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance and safeguarding and the relevance to practice
- Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
- Experience of implementing changes to benefit patients and improve nursing practice
- Knowledge of Ethical issues
