Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced independent Band 7 Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapist to join the community Continence Service at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust.

The post holder will deliver specialist assessment and treatment, to provide the management of complex pelvic health conditions, including bladder and bowel dysfunction, pelvic pain and sexual dysfunction. As an autonomous and independent practitioner within a multi-disciplinary team, you will participate and contribute to service improvement and the delivery of evidence-based practice. You will have leadership responsibilities for the supervision of junior Pelvic Health Physiotherapists and Physiotherapy students.

The Continence Service operates from multiple community-based clinical sites across the City of Sheffield, and the postholder will be expected to work flexibly and collaboratively to provide high standards of care aligned with the PROUD values.

Main duties of the job

Assess, diagnose, plan and develop specialised pelvic health physiotherapy treatments in line with national guidance.

Accountable for the delivery of high-quality pelvic health physiotherapy care .

Provide clinical leadership to develop and support Pelvic Health Physiotherapist within the service

Supervise and support the development of pelvic health physiotherapists and Physiotherapy students working within the Community Continence service.

Develop the evidence base for clinical practice using audit, research to highly specialized evidenced based Physiotherapy service within the team and coordination of patient pathways across the trust.

To work in partnership with the Clinical Services Manager and Operational Nurse Lead to assist with planning, evaluation, and development of services, contributing to service improvement projects.

To work across professional boundaries, to deliver comprehensive, holistic care that is responsive to the patient population.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma/degree in Physiotherapy from a CSP recognised training establishment
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Demonstrate commitment to Continuous Professional Development via personal development plans/file
  • Evidence of relevant postgraduate development at Masters level in pelvic health practice or equivalent experience
  • Training from Higher Education Institution for graduate physiotherapy student supervision
  • Trained in Basic Life Support

Desirable

  • Trained in intermediate Life Support

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post-registration specialist experience in pelvic health / physiotherapy
  • Demonstrates clear understanding of NHS pelvic health pathways
  • Experience in clinical effectiveness including audit, service evaluation, or research
  • Knowledge of current legislation and government policy provision applicable to service area. Clear demonstration of relevant NHS strategy, e.g. perinatal pelvic health and continence.
  • Highly developed analytical clinical assessment, diagnostic and treatment skills relevant to clinical area.
  • Ability to work independently as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Proven experience of collaborative team working
  • Supervision of junior staff and students from own and other professional backgrounds.

Desirable

  • Experience in MSK physiotherapy practice
  • Experience of project and/or change management and quality improvement

Essential

  • Specialist understanding of pelvic health conditions, pathways and interventional procedures
  • Clinical leadership skills to lead and develop clinical practice within own team and across wider services
  • Demonstration of educational and presentation skills internally and externally to the team
  • Ability to reflect and critically appraise own and others' performance
  • Demonstration of IT skills to include EPR, service level data and relevant IT systems
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to manage a busy workload and priorities effectively
  • The post holder must hold a clean UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes
