The Community Autism Service (CAS) is a new team, developed with commissioners,staffand Experts by Experience, to meet a gap within service provision for autistic adults across Lambeth,Lewishamand Southwark.The CAS aims to support autistic individuals who cannot access other services such as mental health or learning disability services, but wouldbenefitfrom specialist, autism focused, time-limited and targeted assessment and therapeutic input.

Main duties of the job
o To provide specialist interventions including specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.o Have oversight of a small caseload managed in partnership with the Multi-Disciplinary team(MDT). The MDT team is a team of multi professionals with specialist skills and experience withthe client group.o To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.o To provide consultation as appropriate.o To promote service evaluation, audit and research.o To work as an autonomous professional within registration body guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by the policies and procedures of the service, taking responsibility for ownwork including treatment and discharge decisions with support of clinical supervisoro To offer training as required.o To be active in the provision of staff support within their area, including but not limited to Critical Incident Staff Support and Reflect-Support-Resolve. To participate, as a recipient, in staffsupport work when appropriate.
About us
This post provides specialist speech and language therapy (SLT) to the newly formed Community Autism Service, a multi-disciplinary team supporting a small group of autistic adults across the Boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham. The post holder will work alongside an occupational therapist, psychologist and peer support worker and will be supported by a team administrator.
The team will offer specialist health input to autistic adults within the Boroughs who require time focused, specialist health input. The team has been set up to fill a gap in service provision, with a focus on supporting autistic individuals whose needs are not catered to by other services (forexample mental health, learning disability or forensic services)
The team will be part of the wider neurodevelopmental pathway, which includes access to further MDT colleagues and opportunities for conducting research and undergoing CPD.

Job responsibilities
Key Responsibilities: To provide Speech and Language Therapy assessment and intervention to autistic service users within the Community Autism Service (CAS). To autonomously manage a caseload in the CAS and carry out assessments, interventions and give advice regarding the daily management of service users to the MDT. To work as part of the MDT in the management and care delivery of service users and to participate in MDT reviews. To work with the MDT to triage referrals to the service. To participate in support to the system around the client, including the delivery of training where required. To support junior staff as required, including supervision and training.
General To demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the issues associated with clinical governance and their application to professional practice. This will include compliance with / adherence to and implementation of service and service area policies, national and local guidelines and RCSLT professional and clinical guidelines. To maintain and record an active programme of continuing professional development, including feeding back to colleagues on any courses or conferences attended. To participate regularly in the evaluation of the effectiveness of intervention and models of service delivery, maintaining up to date knowledge of relevant clinical practice and research To undertake specific departmental audit projects and contribute to departmental research where appropriate. To ensure that users and user groups are involved with projects and service developments wherever appropriate.
