Speciality Doctor - Neurology | Basildon Hospital

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Speciality Doctor to join the dynamic Neurology team at Basildon Hospital. This role offers a diverse and rewarding clinical experience, combining general neurology outpatient clinics with inpatient ward referrals.

You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of consultant neurologists and specialist nurses, contributing to high-quality, patient-centred care while further developing your clinical skills across a broad range of neurological conditions.

Main duties of the job

  • Review and triage neurology inpatient and outpatient referrals, providing timely assessments and management plans
  • Liaise closely with acute medicine, stroke, ED, and other specialties to support coordinated patient care
  • Deliver inpatient and outpatient general neurology care, including supervised clinics and follow-up continuity
  • Support safe discharge planning, follow-up arrangements, and accurate clinical documentation
  • Collaborate with consultants, specialist nurses, and MDTs, contributing to clinical discussions and service development
  • Participate in teaching, audit, quality improvement, governance activities, and departmental meetings
  • Maintain professional development (CPD, appraisal, revalidation) and develop subspecialty interests while adhering to Trust standards

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice

Desirable

  • MRCP or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 4 years post graduate experience, including at least 2 years in neurology, acute medicine, or related specialties
  • Ability to assess and manage a broad range of neurological conditions
  • Understanding of NHS structures and multidisciplinary working

Desirable

  • Experience supervising junior doctors or students
  • Experience in a neurology subspecialty
