Job summary

This is a 10 month, fixed term post for a Trust Resident Doctor ST1/2 (MN35). The Main duties of the post will involve seeing, diagnosing, and treating Urology patients, referring to other clinicians or general practitioners where appropriate and theatre.

You will be expected to work closely with appropriate nursing, professional, technical, administrative and support staff.

You will be responsible jointly with the Registrars for ensuring high standard of care is delivered to patients. In particular, the teams should organised themselves such that twice-daily review of patients occurs at Watford General Hospital.

You will be responsible for ensuring adequate clinical notes are made in accordance with good medical practice.

You may, on occasions, be asked to assist in the teaching of medical students.

Main duties of the job

Junior doctors are required to perform duties over and above their contracted hours in occasional emergencies and in unforeseen circumstances, at the request of the Clinical Director of the service.

It has been agreed with the profession and the Department of Health that these additional commitments are exceptional and juniors should not be required to undertake work of this kind for a prolonged period or on a regular basis.

Job description

Job responsibilities

You will be required to work to a 1:12 joint General Surgery/Urology on-call duty rota, which will be produced in advance and will include prospective cover for annual leave for colleagues. During 0800-2000, 7 days per week, this rota will have 2 resident doctors covering either General Surgery or Urology. Out of these hours there will be 1 resident doctor to cover.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications:

Essential

  • Confirmed GMC registration to cover the scope of employment
  • M.B.B.S or Equivalen

Desirable

  • Distinctions, Scholarships, prizes
  • MRCS Part 1 and/or 2 Other degrees e.g. BSc. Masters, PhD (or equivalent)

Knowledge:

Essential

  • Competent in basic urological procedures

Experience:

Essential

  • Experience in UK Hospital
  • Able to prioritise clinical need
  • Understands current clinical issues in specialty
  • Aware of own limitations consultants senior colleagues appropriately and knows when to ask for help
  • Understands the confidentiality and data protection
  • Understands the need for and appreciates the role of audit in clinical practice
  • Understands the principles of clinical governance - ensures patients are not put at risk principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
