Job summary

Working with a skilled urgent care team, you'll assess and treat patients so they receive safe, timely care when they need it most.

You'll support people of all ages who present with minor injuries, illness and acute conditions. This role is part of a 7-day service operating between 7:00am and 8:00pm, requiring a flexible approach to meet patient needs. You'll work in a multi-disciplinary team and collaborate with partner services to ensure a smooth patient journey.

Main duties of the job

What you'll do:

  • Assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of undifferentiated conditions
  • Manage minor injuries, illness and acute presentations
  • Refer or escalate patients safely when needed
  • Follow evidence-based guidance, audit and best practice
  • Support junior colleagues and act as a positive role model

What we're looking for:

  • A registered clinician with experience in urgent care or similar settings
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work within professional boundaries and follow procedures
  • Confident communicator who works well in a team
  • Willingness to work flexibly across services and locations

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Nursing or Paramedic Science (Level 6) or significant experience.
  • Academic modules / specialist training completed in relevant area/subject
  • Professional Registration with the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) or HCPCP (Health Care Professional Council)

Knowledge

Essential

  • Significant knowledge of relevant policy and legislation, guidance and local initiatives and issues in relation to unplanned care
  • Working knowledge of multidisciplinary teams
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Demonstrate the use of evidence based practice

Desirable

  • Comprehensive working knowledge of medication and interventions used in unplanned care
  • Knowledge of the legal framework surrounding medications prescribed or supplied, including PGDs, PSDs, EOL care pathways etc.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in an acute or primary care setting
  • Experience of workload management and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience of utilising a variety of software packages e.g. SystmOne, and E-Mail

Desirable

  • Previous experience of using PGDs
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary team working and working with patients with minor injuries and minor illness presentations
  • Experience of the initial management, stabilisation and onward referral of patients who may self-present with more serious/life threatening conditions
