We are looking for an experienced Supervising Engineer (SupE) in reservoir safety, or working towards appointment within the next two years, to join the Reservoir Safety Reform team.
The role has three focuses;
The Reservoir Safety Reform Programme;
Undertaking a Supervising Engineers role under the Reservoirs Act 1975 for a number of Environment Agency’s flood storage reservoirs; and
National assessment and assurance of the quality of statutory engineers’ reports.
You will play a key role in shaping and delivering the Reservoir Safety Reform Programme, implementing the findings of the Independent Reservoir Safety Review(Reservoir Safety Reform Programme | Engage Environment Agency)
Your role will include:
Leading and managing the development of policy for reservoir safety legislation.
Developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders, including government organisations, industry experts and focus groups.
Providing leadership and engineering assurance on complex reputational, political, technical and legal matters.
Undertake the role of Supervising Engineer for a range of Environment Agency reservoirs.
Organising assessment of statutory engineers' reports, analysing trends and areas for improvements.
Developing and providing training to the panel engineers and reservoir community to improve standards.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
You will join the Reservoir Safety Reform team, part of the Chief Engineers Department in Flood Coastal Risk Management. The team is responsible for setting standards for regulation within the reservoir industry as well as delivering the reservoir safety reform programme.

The ideal candidate will:
Be an engineer appointed to the Supervising Engineers (England and Wales) Panel (SupE) or working towards appointment within the next two years.
Have significant experience working with reservoirs and reservoir legislation Ideally, this will include:
experience in reservoir safety legal cases, regulation, emergency planning, operations, incident response, post-incident reporting, reservoir safety research and working on reservoir safety schemes..
Have experienced in developing and reviewing technical standards.
Be confident in communicating clearly and building relationships with external partners and internal teams, with a collaborative mindset and dedication to professional growth.
