Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the senior leadership of the North Locality Teams as an Advanced Practitioner Occupational Therapist. The post holder will be working across Peterborough, Huntingdon and Fenland Adult Locality Teams, providing leadership to the Occupational Therapy teams.

You will be joining a service supporting working-age adults who have severe and enduring mental health problems. The team offers care-coordination, a daily duty service, psychiatric assessments, medication reviews, ongoing risk management, care planning, support around benefits and housing & a wide variety of therapeutic interventions.

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs. Main duties of the job

As an Advanced Practitioner Occupational Therapist , you will play a pivotal role in delivering coordinated care to a defined caseload. You will provide clinical leadership within the OT team as well as across the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings, ensuring effective risk management, care planning, and clinical decision-making. You will work alongside the Service manager to complete investigations, manage complaints and subject access requests.

You will support clinicians in managing complex cases, guide discharge planning, and promote smooth clinical throughput. A key part of your role will be fostering strong interfaces with other teams

In this role, you will demonstrate confident and effective leadership by chairing large, multi-agency meetings . You will lead on audits and quality improvement initiatives. A core part of your responsibilities will include delivering clinical supervision, conducting staff appraisals, and fostering professional development within the team.

You will also be involved in ensuring that the service is a positive learning environment for students from various disciplines.

  1. To provide clinical leadership to the OT pathway within the service. Including oversight of OT functional assessment, sensory integration, reablement and vocational pathway.

  2. To offer OT training and development to OT workforce, students and the wider team.

  3. To manage a small caseload of clients with OT needs and undertake case management/lead professional as needed.

  4. To provide clinical leadership within a designated multidisciplinary meeting to support effective caseload management.

  5. To chair the multi disciplinary meetings as needed to ensure optimal clinical decision making.

  6. To provide comprehensive OT assessments for service users.

  7. To receive operational supervision from the Service Manager or equivalent.

  8. To establish professional links with other care groups and professionals supporting the recovery of patients.

  9. To work in partnership with other agencies to gain the best person-centred outcome for the individual.

10 .To be able to communicate with and meet the needs of families and carers as appropriate to the care group and individual client.

Person Specification

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • Professional qualifications in OT and on AHP register.
  • Degree or extensive clinical experience
  • Evidence of Continuous professional development

  • Leadership Qualification

  • Extensive experience of providing a range of interventions to people
  • Experience of working in the community
  • Extensive experience of conducting clinical assessments including risk assessments

  • Experience of leading staff or teams in practice improvement

  • Advanced skills in: OT assessment, planning and therapeutic intervention
  • Advanced skills in problem solving and clinical risk management
  • The ability to multi-task and mental adaption to different and unpredictable situations

Knowledge & Understanding

Essential

  • Advanced specialist knowledge of assessment, intervention and practice models relevant to the client group and OT
  • Knowledge of NICE guidance and other national guidance relevant to delivery of safe clinical practice
  • Knowledge of relevant practice legislation to include the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Care Act.

  • Ability to travel independently around the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area meeting required timescales. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
