Job summary

o We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Technicial Officer to assist with the provision of Pharmacy Services to patients and staff across all sites of UCLH to provide an economic, efficient and timely service following agreed departmental policies and procedures.o This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic, friendly, and supportive team where every day brings new challenges and learning experiences. You'll work alongside experienced pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, gaining hands-on experience in dispensary, stock control, and medicines distribution, while contributing directly to high-quality patient care.o To thrive in this role, you'll need to be organised, reliable and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail really matters. Main duties of the job

o To dispense medicines in an accurate and timely manner for inpatients and outpatients of the trust as directed by senior technicians using the pharmacy computer system and automated dispensing devices where in place.o To answer the telephones in a prompt and courteous mannero To cover the Outpatient reception receiving prescriptions (following Standard Operating Procedures) checking payment exemptions and taking payment where appropriateo To ensure all filing of prescriptions and other documentation is completeo To ensure all medicines delivered to wards are placed in sealed bags to ensure security in the transport of medicines within the hospitalo To ensure that the dispensary has adequate supplies of medicine bottles, bags spoons, measures and syringes and ordering these on a when required basiso To participate in the ward top up service and the direct distribution of IV fluidso To assist with the ordering, receipt and issue of stock items to wards and departments using the pharmacy computer system o To put away Dispensary stock drugs, according to departmental procedures of stock rotationo Ensuring that all stock control procedures and regulations are adhered to according to specifications and licensing requirements of the Medicines Healthcare Regulatory Authority (MHRA).o Ensuring that documentation is complete when giving out items for transporto Ensuring the accurate and safe receipt of pharmaceuticals from suppliers.

Ensuring the highest standards of accuracy with good attention to detail in order to reduce receipt and issue errors as many medicines are delivered directly to wards for immediate patient administration. Efficiently using the pharmacy computer system to manage stock control. Participating in the daily stock take and full annual stock take.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

  • If candidate does not hold an NVQ level 2 certificate in pharmacy services or equivalent- to have the ability to undertake and achieve QCF/NVQ Level 2 and underpinning knowledge in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Apprenticeship framework)

Desirable

  • To be working towards or hold an NVQ L2 In pharmacy services or equivalent.

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrated previous customer service experience or working with people
  • Previous experience of working towards and meeting deadlines

Desirable

  • Pharmacy experience in hospital/retail environment
