Job summary
An exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Audiologist to join a dynamic team, delivering high-quality audiology services across adult and paediatric pathways. The post holder will undertake a range of diagnostic assessments, including pure tone audiometry and middle ear function tests, and contribute to patient-centred management plans.
The role involves assessing hearing and rehabilitation needs, fitting and maintaining digital hearing aids in line with national guidelines, and providing ongoing support to patients through clinics, including community and domiciliary visits where required. The post holder will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including ENT and paediatric services, ensuring coordinated and holistic care.
In addition, the successful candidate will support paediatric clinics, assist with more advanced assessments alongside senior staff, contribute to service administration, and play a role in training and supporting students. Accurate record keeping, effective communication, and a commitment to delivering high standards of care are essential.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Duties Adult:To carry out and take responsibility for the outcome of pure tone, speech audiometric assessments, and middle ear function testsfor adults and older children referred from ENT clinics, advising patients and referring clinicians on management plans based oninformation obtained from these tests when appropriate.
To assess the auditory rehabilitation needs of adults with respect to their audiological status, communication skills and socialneeds.To formulate appropriate management strategies based on this information, including advising patients on communicationstrategies, hearing aids, and assistive listening devices, or referring on to an appropriate member of staff as necessary.To liaise with and refer to medical staff, specialist Audiology services and local support services as necessary.To assess patients needs for hearing aids and select the most appropriate digital model in line with departmental protocols.To carry out otoscopic examination to assess the state of the outer and middle ear (recognising contraindications to furthertreatment), occasionally advising and referring on to appropriate professionals those patients who have ear infections anddischarging ears or impacted wax. To take ear impressions and select appropriate type of ear mould required. To carry outmodifications to ear moulds using drilling and grinding equipment.To fit a comprehensive range of NHS digital hearing aids to patients based on information obtained, using appropriate technology,following BSA guidelines.To assess the benefit derived from hearing aids using subjective and objective measures, including appropriate questionnaires,insertion gain measurements (involving accurate insertion of probe tubes into the ear) and speech tests. To assess hearing aidfunction objectively using test box.To provide ongoing assessment and maintenance for adult hearing aid users through drop in repair clinics and scheduledappointments at the Base Hospital and external clinics.If required, to carry out ward visits and home visits to housebound patients requiring hearing aid fittings, assessments, hearing aidrepairs and impressions for ear moulds.To accurately record results of all tests, hearing aid fittings, benefit profiles and other patient contacts on departmental computeriseddatabase and maintain professional development in audiology related information technology.
Clinical Duties Paediatric:To assess the need for hearing aids of older children with temporary hearing loss, taking ear mould impressions, fitting appropriatehearing aids, and providing ongoing assessment of need and benefit through scheduled appointments. To maintain a clinicalcaseload of these children to ensure continuity of care. To communicate with SENCOM and senior paediatric team to ensureongoing effective care.To assist senior staff in testing preschool children in sound field tests if required.

- PTP in Audiology (or equivalent) plus RCCP Professional register
Experience

- NHS Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) Or equivalence BAAT parts I & II
- RCCP registration
- Experience in adult diagnostic hearing assessments and hearing aid fittings using real ear measurements
Desirable
- Experience in older children's hearing assessments and digital hearing aid fittings for glue ear
