Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for two Clinical Fellows with an interest in community based child health research to join our Yorkshire and Humber Applied Research Collaboration (YHARC) and Born in Bradford (BiB) teams. These posts would suit post Foundation Year 2 doctors.
As part of our Healthy Families theme of the YHARC we are looking for responsive researchers. Working closely with our Director of Child Health Research, these posts would suit someone keen to work across the breadth of child health research, from babies to teenagers, using a variety of research methods, on a large range of data sources, and with colleagues from across the country. The posts are designed to be responsive to system needs and changing interests. Work in the group at present covers topics as diverse as vaccination, infant technology, frailty, obesity, and mental health.

Main duties of the job
The post holders will be involved in range of prospective and responsive child health and inequalities research and evaluation projects across the Yorkshire and Humber region. Key areas of work will include:
Stakeholder engagement - to explore research and evaluation ideas and develop appropriate proposals that align with available resources
Applied epidemiology - describing large cohorts, investigating risk factors
Evaluation - collaborating with data-science colleagues to evaluate study interventions
Research support - helping colleagues do good quality research
The post holder will work closely with a range of different colleagues and stakeholders, the wider research and data teams, generating and exploring research and evaluation ideas across a dynamic range of child health research topics. The role will involve i) mapping, harmonising and integrating datasets; ii) working with colleagues to do data analysis; iii) dissemination of findings, and v) working with stakeholders to facilitate the translation of research to practice and policy (knowledge mobilisation).

In addition the postholder(s) will play a leadership role in exploring and, with guidance, designing and implementing research and evaluation projects focusing on a range of topics including inequalities, early years and the built environment, and work independently to engage with stakeholders to co-produce and refine research questions, map routine data, develop statistical analysis plans, and work with others to support development of the YHARC Healthy Families Theme responsive research capability.
Working closely with the Director of Child Health Research, you will be responsible for designing, leading, and publishing research which is responsive to the emerging research priorities of communities, professional stakeholders.
Data resources for the posts include Born In Bradford our flagship birth cohort study, including a vast array of genetic, medical and family-level data; the worlds first interventional cohort, Born In Bradfords Better Start, designed to evaluate preventative interventions to reduce inequalities; BiB4All, an ongoing electronic birth cohort studying new mothers via consented data linkage; Age of Wonder, a large study of adolescent health that will recruit all secondary school pupils in the local authority; and Connected Bradford, a whole-population linked database including health, social care, and education records.

IELTS certificate to be presented at interview. If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of these examples they must provide supporting evidence
- Demonstrable interest in child population health research, including prevention and early intervention
- Demonstrable interest in knowledge mobilisation as it relates to research evidence in UK population child health
- Evidence of doing data analysis, accepted conference abstracts, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals
Qualifications

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by the time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice
