We have an exciting opportunity to join our team of healthcare scientists working in the Clinical Measurement and Engineering Unit of Northern Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering. This post is based primarily in two clinical services, visual electrodiagnostics (VED) and spinal cord monitoring (SCM).
This role involves working clinically in outpatient and theatre settings, with a range of teams from multiple specialties (ophthalmology, orthopaedics, anaesthetics). We expect that the successful candidate will be able to develop and lead research and development and quality improvement projects in these services and the wider unit.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will perform VED tests on patients in an outpatient environment and report theseinvestigations clinically. Additionally, the post-holder will provide intraoperative neuromonitoring for patients undergoing spinal surgery. Service-specific training will be provided as required, but an understanding of neurophysiology andclinical experience performing patient investigations is essential.
We expect the post-holder to contribute to and lead quality improvement and R&D projectsin a range of technical and scientific applications, either in one of the home services or by contributing to the unit's wider portfolio of projects, for example through the clinical engineering team.
We are looking for a highly motivated person with excellent clinical, scientific and communication skills. We invite applications from candidates who have completed or are nearing completion of the scientist training programme (STP) in specialities such as ophthalmic and vision science, clinical engineering, and neurophysiology. Applications from candidates working towards clinical scientist registration by equivalence or who would be eligible to apply for equivalence in reasonable time frames would also be considered.

Qualifications & Education
Essential
- First or second class honours degree in a relevant science or engineering subject.
