Job summary

This post is for a consultant in Dermatology. This is a part-time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

Applicants are required to hold Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK or equivalent qualifications), to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, and to be on the Specialist Register or due to obtain their CCT within six months of the date of interview.

Main duties of the job

The post is for a part-time (7 PA) NHS Consultant Dermatologist. It offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated candidate to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team to deliver excellent dermatology care in St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals. A specialist interest is welcomed.

Applicants are required to hold membership of the Royal College ofPhysicians (UK or equivalent qualifications), be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and to be either on the Specialist Register for Dermatology or due to obtain their CCT within six months of the date of interview.

This post holder will be employed for a part-time post (7 PA).

Provision of ward consultations for inpatients is necessary according to requirements.

The post holder is required to participate in the management structure of the Medical Division.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Job responsibilities

Proposed job plan:

3 outpatient clinics per week (two general dermatology, one skin cancer alternating with minor surgery session)

0.5 session for ward referrals

LSMDT attendance

Allocated sessions for direct patient administration

Time allocated for Advice & Guidance (0.25)

1 session for continuing professional development Grand Round (Broadgreen Hospital)

1.5 sessions for teaching/audit /research/clinical management/non-clinical

Clinic templates are in accordance with the guidelines issued by the British Association of Dermatologists. A typical clinic consists of 4 new patients, 8 follow up patients. There is no on-call commitment.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration and on Specialist Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT on successful application
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCP or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable

  • MD/PHD or equivalent medical qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of achievement of competencies by time of appointment in line with DMC standards/Good Medical; Practice including: oGood clinical care oMaintaining good medical practice oGood relationships and communication with patients oGood working relationships with colleagues oGood teaching and training oProfessional behaviour and probity oDelivery of good acute clinical
  • Clinical training and experience to manage, supervise and offer expert clinical opinion on patients presenting to Dermatology Department
  • Experience of supervising doctors and practitioners with the ability to teach clinical and practical skills
  • Evidence of appropriate teaching experience
  • Demonstrates ability to undertake robust audit within team structure

Desirable

  • Evidence of feedback or peer review on these skills
  • Evidence of formally supervising medical students, F1, F2, ACCS and specialist trainees
  • Evidence of relevant research e.g. presentations, publications in peer reviewed journals
  • The ability to apply outcomes to clinical problems
