Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Haematologist with a special interest in Haemostasis & Thrombosis.
The inherited bleeding disorder service provides care for adults and children with bleeding disorders living in South, Mid and West Wales. The service looks after 90 people with severe haemophilia. The comprehensive care centre is based in Cardiff but patients can access services at haemophilia centres in Cardiff, Swansea and Abergavenny. The aim is to deliver a seamless service at all sites, with input from the most relevant staff member. There is regular outreach to each centre as well as MDT meetings. The service has an active trials programme, facilitated by 3 research nurses and trials coordinator, who also deliver trials in thrombosis/ anticoagulation and ITP.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in wide range of clinical services.
Academic interests will be encouraged, research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's School of Medicine will be expected.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialists Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT/CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
Main duties of the job
This post will play a key role in delivering a high-quality Haemostasis & Thrombosis service across the designated hospital sites, working collaboratively with Consultant colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team. The post holder will provide specialist assessment and management for patients, ensure continuity of care, and contribute to safe, effective departmental delivery aligned to the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan. The role also includes supervision and support of junior medical staff, active participation in CPD and continuing medical education, and a strong commitment to clinical audit and Clinical Governance. Domiciliary consultations may be required in line with Health Board policy. The successful candidate will join the Haemostasis & Thrombosis on-call rota covering University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough and will undertake any additional agreed duties, including work with partner agencies.
