Job summary
We are excited to advertise a 7.5 PA consultant post within the Haematology department here at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals Trust. The successful candidate will join a team of 7 other consultants working across Hemel hospital (outpatient clinic) and Watford Hospital (outpatient clinic, day unit and in patient care).
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague, looking for less than full-time employment, to join our strong and very supportive team. Our current priorities for this post are:
-
Improve the efficiency of the clinics by reducing the number of patients on routine follow up appointments. We are keen to utilise options including safe discharges from clinics, patient-initiated follow-up pathway, and results-only clinics.
-
Provide clinical supervision to the Hospital Transfusion Committee and when required, input to the IVIG panel
We are also working closely together with our tertiary referral centre, University College London Hospital (UCLH), in preparation for the relocation of the Mount Vernon Cancer which will be built at the Watford General Hospital site and will be supervised by UCLH. Although this is still in the planning phase, this will likely require some integration of haematology patient pathways between the two Trusts
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the usual clinical activities of the haematology department at Hemel Hempstead Hospital and Watford General Hospital such as outpatient clinics, consultant ward round/ board round, laboratory work (overseeing blood film and bone marrow reporting), Advice & Guidance service for GPs, clinical input to Haematology Day Unit, Haemato-oncology MDT, ad hoc morphology teaching and regular formal teaching to the speciality trainees, and departmental operational meeting attendance. Inpatient care is provided at Watford General Hospital. Attending consultants are rotating every two weeks, frequency 1 in 5. The consultant will provide continuing responsibility for patient care in partnership with other colleagues.
