As a Band 6 Midwife, you will provide holistic care across a variety of maternity settings, supporting women and birthing people through some of the most important moments of their lives. You will be confident in delivering personalised care that reflects the unique needs, choices and circumstances of every individual and family.
Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will build strong relationships with colleagues across maternity, obstetrics, neonatal services, primary care, safeguarding and wider healthcare services. Your excellent communication skills will allow you to provide reassurance, guidance and support, including during complex or emotionally challenging situations.
Alongside your clinical responsibilities, you will play an important leadership role within the team. You will help create a positive learning environment by supporting the development of student midwives, newly qualified staff and colleagues across the service. You'll be encouraged to share your knowledge, contribute to service improvements and help shape the future of maternity care.

Job responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Provide high-quality, evidence-based midwifery care throughout pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care for women, birthing people and their babies.
- Promote informed choice, advocacy and person-centred care, ensuring families feel supported and empowered throughout their maternity journey.
- Work autonomously within professional guidelines while recognising when to seek support and escalation.
- Support both low-risk and complex pregnancies, collaborating closely with obstetric, neonatal and wider multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Respond effectively to changing clinical situations and emergencies, ensuring safe and timely care.
- Act as a positive role model, supporting, supervising and mentoring student midwives, newly qualified colleagues and support staff.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, audits, patient safety activities and service development projects.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure high standards of professional practice in line with the NMC Code.

Qualifications
Essential
- Midwifery NMC registration
- Educated to Diploma/degree level or above
- Completed preceptorship development programme with post qualification experience.
- Mentor/assessor training qualification
- Safeguarding (level 3) adults and children's training
Desirable
- Neonatal Life SupportNeonatal and Infant Physical Examination qualification (NIPE) or working towards
Experience

- Experience of assist instrumental birthsKnowledge and experience to deal appropriately with obstetric emergencies in the absence of medical staff
