Nurse Practitioner Specialist Nurse for Endometriosis & Pelvic Pain

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Specialist Nurse Practitioner to lead the development of an advanced nurse specialist service for women referred with endometriosis, suspected endometriosis and problematic pelvic pain.

Working across hospital and community settings, you will provide expert advice, support and education to women and their families, ensuring access to evidence-based care, information and appropriate services throughout their treatment journey.

As an autonomous practitioner with extended clinical responsibilities, you will assess, develop and implement acute and chronic management plans, manage complex clinical situations and arrange follow-up care as required. You will act as a source of specialist expertise, providing guidance, supervision and training to peers and junior staff.

Working closely with Consultants, you will support pelvic pain clinics and contribute to the ongoing development of patient pathways. You will also play a key role in monitoring, evaluating and improving services across the Health Board to ensure women receive safe, effective and sustainable high-quality care.

Main duties of the job

To lead on the development of an advanced/expert nurse specialist service for women with pelvic pain, ensuring the provision of specialist and advanced/expert advice and support to multi professional teams to improve the way in which services are provided and access to service for women.

To be an ambassador, and advocate for endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain care in the region and nationally.

To develop and provide a community service through dedicated pelvic pain nurse led clinics which will include clinical assessment and woman support sessions.

To assess the needs of women with pelvic pain to ensure that they receive a clinically effective assessment and treatment.

Work alongside Consultants and provide support for their pelvic pain clinics.

To ensure, with support of MDT that Clinical protocols and procedures are in place which ensure the safety of women and staff and meet local and national guidance.

To demonstrate extensive knowledge of endometriosis and provide written and verbal information, give advice, counselling, support to women and their families.

To act as an autonomous nurse practitioner by planning and organising own workload effectively and being accountable for the quality and standard of work individually performed.

To run a nurse led clinic, take detailed history of symptoms, request / carry out investigations such as blood tests, pelvic ultrasound if competent to do so and introduce appropriate assessment tools.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Knowledge

Essential

  • First level registration with the NMC. Educated to Master's Degree Level or working towards
  • NMC Registered Independent non-medical Nurse Prescriber. or working towards
  • Evidence of continuous professional and management development.
  • Ability to demonstrate professional and clinical knowledge commensurate with the post.
  • Knowledge of national guidelines/strategy

Desirable

  • Teaching and assessing qualification or mentorship.
  • Psychosexual counselling
  • Pain management skills
  • Nurse Sonographer or working towards
  • Member of BSGE

Aptitude/Abilities

Essential

  • Autonomous working in a relevant field such as gynaecology, fertility, women's health, and/or early pregnancy unit.
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Good IT sills
  • Demonstrate good time management skills.

Desirable

  • Pain management skills
  • Experience of facilitating care between different care settings
  • Experience of in a multi-disciplinary/ multi-agency approach
  • Welsh language skills in Speaking/Listening at Level 3 or above
