Job summary

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate part-time Phlebotomist to join our team at the Brent Psychotropic Medication & Physical Health Clinic. This role is central to supporting patients with serious mental illness who are prescribed psychotropic medication, with a primary focus on the Clozapine Monitoring Clinic and additional responsibilities across the wider service. You will be responsible for collecting blood samples in a safe, professional, and empathetic manner, ensuring specimens are accurately labelled and handled to maintain clinical integrity. Working closely with our clinicians and administrative staff, you'll help deliver a smooth and efficient service that prioritises patient comfort and dignity. In addition to phlebotomy duties, the role offers opportunities to expand your clinical skill set, including Clozapine specialist training. Full support and guidance will be provided to help you grow in the role. Job responsibilities

As a phlebotomist the post holder will collect routine blood from patients as and when required and also deliver blood samples to collection points/or the laboratory at specified collection times. You will be required to work within all areas of the Trust following appropriate training, whilst maintaining a high standard of quality patient care and staff, morale through personal example, good conduct and appearance.

  1. To collect routine blood from patients as and when required.

  2. To maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of the service.

  3. To deliver blood samples to collection points/or the laboratory at specified collection times.

  4. To report any inadequate supplies of materials for the smooth running of the service to the Manager

  5. To be part of a team whose aims are to provide the best possible service within the constraints placed within the discipline.

  6. Maintain high standard of personal contact and communication with patients, and relatives

  7. To foster a high professional standard and to liaise with other disciplines and departments as required under the direction / agreement of the Unit Manager

  8. Maintain good standards of department housekeeping, including cleaning of the treatment areas and equipment, cleaning of storage shelves and cupboards, and assisting with the maintenance of stock levels.

  9. To make the Manager aware of any problems/worries relating to sphere/area of work.

  10. Be aware of emergency procedures relating to Basic Life Support and Health & Safety and understand own roles within that.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Working as part of a Team
  • Substantive experience in phlebotomy

Desirable

  • Working in line with policies and procedures
  • Working in a hospital environment
  • Providing a service to the general public

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant qualification/competency in phlebotomy

Desirable

  • GCSE Maths & English or equivalent

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to treat patients and colleagues, courteously and with respect.
  • Be able to give out information in a clear and concise way

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues
  • Awareness of the concept of Consumer Care
