Job summary

We have a full-time vacancy for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist covering the Hull and East Riding Adult Learning Disability Service. This post can be based at Alfred Bean Hospital in Driffield or at Townend Court in Hull. The successful candidate will work as part of the wider multidisciplinary team, providing assessments and treatments to adults with learning disabilities, often with complex needs, across Hull and the East Riding.

We are a well-established, small team of friendly, motivated, and committed individuals. You will receive regular individual supervision, CPD, training, and support within the role to help transfer your skills and develop competencies in this specialist field.

For this role, you must have the ability to travel effectively across the geographical area covered by the service.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage a caseload of service users with complex needs, using evidence based/client centred principles.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions to enhance the quality of life for the patient. Interventions will include psychosocial and physical health/equipment interventions as well as more specialist work such as using a sensory based approach.
  • Use standardised and non-standardised assessments to ascertain patients care needs and inform intervention.
  • Assess for and prescribe appropriate equipment and advise on moving and handling.
  • Contribute to the wider MDT working and interventions such as positive behavioural support.
  • Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Occupational Therapy Services. Provide outcomes for the service and service users by using agreed tools/assessments.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Occupational Therapy within the Trust. Ensure OT provision is delivered in accordance with HCPC and Royal College of Occupational Therapy (RCOT) requirements.
  • Provide supervision for junior staff.

Qualifications, Education and Training

Essential

  • Registration with the HCPC
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • A broad understanding of relevant policy, legislation drivers and their application to clinical practice and service
  • Specialist knowledge of occupational therapy models of practice, standardised assessments, and their use in practice
  • Basic IT skills

Desirable

  • Full understanding of relevant policy, drivers and their application to clinical and service area

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Appropriate knowledge/experience of working in the relevant service area
  • Understanding of caseload management clinical responsibilities

Desirable

  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area
