The personsappointed will be basedprimarilyateitherWoodlands Hospice on the Aintree siteor the new specialist palliative care in-patient unit at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospitalsite,undertakingduties within the in-patientpalliative caresettingsbut with the option of supporting other aspects of theambulatory (Woodlands and Marie Curie Hospices) andhospital-basedservices(AUH/RLUH site)depending on skills and experience.

Main duties of the job

The post holder's main duties will beto support thepatientsand their carers admitted to the in-patient unit at Woodlands Hospice/ LHCH palliative care unitorpresenting to theIMPaCTmedical clinics.

The post-holder, depending on level of experience, may also work alongside theHospital Specialist Palliative Care teamsto review patients under the care of the service within the acute hospitalsandtheCommunitySpecialistPalliative Care teams(AUH site)to undertake crisis intervention domiciliary visits for patients whose preferred place of care is home.

If undertaking duties in the ambulatory service, the post holder will also provide medical advice and support to theIMPaCThub, with support from senior colleagues, and undertake face to face and telephone patient reviews in the ambulatory medical clinic.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration and licence to practice
  • Four years full-time postgraduate training, two of which must have been in relevant acute specialties (or demonstration of equivalent experience)
  • MBBS or Equivalent

Desirable

  • Post Graduate Qualification of Diploma in Palliative Medicine MRCP or equivalent

Experience / Skills / Knowledge

Essential

  • Training and clinical work experience in Palliative Medicine, including a placement in a specialist palliative care in-patient setting
  • Knowledge & Experience of Symptom Control
  • Ability to undertake Audit
  • Understand the principles of quality governance
  • Demonstrates ability to work in a multi-professional team with the ability to manage conflict.
  • Excellent Communication Skills both with patients and with other Healthcare Professionals.

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching basic palliative care skills to non-specialist clinical staff
  • Core Research Skills with ability to embrace a Research Culture.

Personality / Aptitude / Motivation

Essential

  • Good team working skills with the ability to adapt and innovate
  • Demonstrates a flexible approach with the ability to motivate others
  • Excellent communication and knowledge sharing both within the team and externally, both with patients and carers and healthcare professionals

Desirable

  • Experience of Project Management including the development, planning and completion of a project within timescales
